Here are two other things to consider.
I have been running S4 in my bike since the first oil change after break in.
recommended by my dealer.
I friend I know who owns a Honda bike shop, hired as head mechanic last year a guy that he has known for years and has been trying to persuade him work for him. In conversation with this mechanic he told me he goes back to working on Kawas and Nomads in particular since the days of the POG and all the head aches they had with them. That statement means nothing other than to establish he Knows Nomads, but he did asked me if I ran synthetic oil in my bike and when I said yes, his reply was good man keep it up. This is not to promote one brand of synthetic over another, just to point out your dealer parts guy may be talking out of his a*ss.
Yeah, I typically don't mind wrenching on my bike so I know exactly what's going on and don't get jerked around or pay more than I have to for something but I am still learning the Nomad. I've always wanted the Nomad and couldn't afford it but now that I finally have one, it's everything I thought it'd be and then some!

The Walmart oil filter is SuperTech ST-7317 if you are interested in saving about $11 by using it instead of the one the dealer recommended.
That's what I have been using for 60,000 miles.

Thanks, I will! I already bought the dealer one so I'll use it.

I've been using Bosch filters ($9.00 at any AutoZone) and Rotella 5w40 in my 1600 Nomad for years. Switched years ago from Mobil 1 to Rotella 5w40. Bike runs quieter. What the dealer is telling you is bullsh!t... But, I'll bet the dealer came up with that.... I'll bet that Kawasaki didn't tell them that. My 2 centavos worth.

I run Mobil 1 for cars with NO 'EC' lable. Have since I first got the bike and it had 1,314 miles on it then. That dealer is full of hog wash..

I run either NAPA Gold filters or WIX. These are the same thing with different market lables. I consider WIX to be in the best filters catagory . These cost about 6 bucks.

I run full syn gear oil and that with other mods gets me 42/44 MPG. These oils are a part of that MPG.

And you wonder why dealers have such a bad reputation with idiots like this behind the counter. I have run synthetic on 3 different bikes with not one bit of trouble.

I ran Mobil 1 10W-40 fully synthetic for several thousand miles. Currently using a 50/50 mixture of Valvoline 10W-40/20W-50 motorcycle oil. Have over 2,000 miles on this oil change and the bike has performed great. It does have additives for motorcycle wet clutch.

I have run every type in my Nomad. Syns and Dino. Some seem better then others. I always love when someone says their bike loves it.??? How do you know.

Rotella is good but I am more concerned with the vanishing zinc and phosphorous that we really need. I think we will see more issues from it over time in higher mileage bikes with things like wear on cam lobes.

I have for the last 6 months been running Brad Penn 10w-40. My bike loves it Lol

I cant say its better. I will say the engine appears to run quite a bit looser with it. The cost isn't bad and their additive package is excellent. So for now, it is my #1 choice of oils.

I just started running the rotella this year. Shifts much quieter, or my hearing is starting to go. Engine seems a bit smoother as well. I will be using it on the next change as well.

I can get the Rotela in NY for about $20 for the gallon. In Canada, when it is on sale, I get it for $28 for a gallon.
