Waving New Nomad Owner! Suggestions?

Hey everyone! I just found a great deal on a low mileage 2006 Nomad 1600. Disclaimer...this is only my second bike so I'm still a noob. lol

The bike came with pretty much everything I wanted on a bike: Hard bags, cobra pipes, floor boards, fork wind deflectors, windshield. So my question is, what do people suggest as nest step "must haves" for upgrades to the bike?

Thanks!

-I've considered a driver backrest but I have a longer lower torso and find that sliding down and leaning back a bit is comfortable.
-I had pegs on my previous bike but I'm too much of a control freak and didn't like using them. lol
-The previous owner put a thumb throttle lock on it, I use it on occasion.

I was thinking shocks since I'm 280 and my wife is 130ish and rides with me on occasion. (Shocks are stock...? I think?)

I think a always hot 12v socket is a necessity.
I would also consider a better horn.
For me the highway pegs are a must have.
A bib (?) for the front crashbars is nice on cold wet days.

A grasshopper backrest will give you the best of both worlds. You can set up so that it has lean-back but it will still support you, looks good and wont break the bank. About 85.00 bucks.

If you set your highway pegs low you can actually achieve having your feet in four different positions. Excellent for long trips where you are adjusting you positions. I put my toes on the highway pegs and my heel on the floorboard no control issues.

You have air shocks on the nomad. Need to get a air pump for shocks about 25 bucks and you can pump them up to 40 lbs pressure. Usually enough for any 2 ups.

Do NOT try to air up your shocks with an air compressor. The shocks are pretty delicate. I wouldn't even try it with a regular bicycle pump. There are hand pumps made specifically for motorcycle shocks. Buy/use one of those ONLY. You've been warned.

Well, Welcome Aboard!
Things that are in the lacking dept.....are.....
1. the seat....take a long trip with her, you will know.....
2. add a new custom exhaust and intake, let the engine breath.
3. add a tuner to richen your engine up some, these bikes run extremely lean.
After that, customize to taste!

The problem with the hand pumps is that you need one with a zero loss valve.

And like was said, never use a compressor to add air to your shocks.

Get a set of Progressive’s.

Getting a Cobra exhaust already installed is a plus when buying a Nomad. You used the word "pipes" but I'm assuming you have the Cobra true duals like I bought for mine.

What is interesting is that there are a lot of Nomad riders out there who put thousands of miles on these bikes with no upgrades at all. They come touring ready but it's always fun modify them to your liking.

And that reminds me. I've just gotta get my Dobeck EJK tuner installed.

The backrest is the best thing i put on mine.It totally changes the way i sit,and was greatly appreciated by my arse.Prior to fitting it,i could'nt even reach the pegs.now its so comfortable,i can ride for a few hrs without an arse break.

Cramp buster, not unsafe lock. Saddle heat shields - fir heat and noise RJS online. K&N air filter beats all other big air options for performance and mileage - 65 bucks k&n online, but lasts 5x longer & breathes 5x better. Battery tender - brand, pigtail for battery stretches to the right saddle bag, add the USB attachment & you can charge your phone or run components while u ride. Michelin Commander 2 tires when it's time to change - they ride well & last. Shell premium gas beats all brands for performance & mpg in my '12 Nomad 1700. Bike Spirits cleaner & protectant - for paint, chrome, plastic, rubber- best, easiest stuff I've ever used. Wipe down regularly & easy.
