1600 Nomad battery removal

I owned a 1500 Nomad before. I bought a 1600 Nomad last April. I put my 1600 in storage and couldn't remove the battery. I couldn't even see how to unplug the plastic electrical plugs on the top of the bar over the battery. Any suggestions to do this would be appreciated. TIA

The connectors have locking tabs that you depress or lift (can't remember which) to get them apart.
Then remove the negative first then the positive.
Put a zip tie thru each hole in the battery posts. Connect each tie into a loop. This gives you something to hold onto to get the battery out. It's a tight fit...

zip ties, but what i did was buy a 1.5 amp battery tender and with it came battery hook-up cable for leaving battery on the bike when charging, i ran the cable to the inside of the right-side cover so I don't have to remove the seat

The battery on a Nomad is a pain in the ass to get in and out.
I did what degreaser did.

Thanks everyone! Very poor design. I was very surprised, expected the same as the 1500. I shall try again.

I have done the same.....also, I have permanently mounted my battery tender inside my saddlebag, so, when traveling, I can keep battery topped off....

Do you carry an extension cord to reach an outlet or park the bike in the motel room,

Lol no ex-cord... Had the bike 2 years and the 0° with -10°wind chill ..killed it. No problems before this.

That one had me kind of scratching my head too. I don't worry about charging the battery while touring.

I was quoting Dragon Lady who said " I have permanently mounted my battery tender inside my saddlebag, so, when traveling, I can keep battery topped off...."
If she is traveling I wondered how she charges the battery with the tender permanently mounted in her saddlebag.

Yep TC, I carry a short 15', coiled up in bottom of bag....
Going to Sturgis, when you get close, they have plugs outside the rooms or bike parking by the offices....I've only needed a 15'....
Its very hard to get thru the door with the batwing........if you go up on the sidewalk its easy. Though a 25' might be better. Too long is better than too short....
I did have a 25' to start with, it was stolen in Pheonix, along with my speedo visor.......so I walked to a WalMart across the street and got a 15', they had sold out anf not restocked the 25s....

I mounted the battery tender inside my bag, cut the plug off, mounted this just above the crashbar in front of bag....

Cut the plug off this thing, used weatherproof connections. Drilled another hole in the upper inside corner (toward wheel), ran the pigtail thru that attaches to battery.

I can replace things if I need to, just unplug the parts and replace. Oh, I use grommets and black silicone sealant so bags won't leak....

Oh, also, I left enough line, I fastened the cord to the inside of saddlebag with silicone, so it won't interfere with putting a bags inside. This is just above the lower part of crashbar on the right side....

I can plug my bike in in nasty weather without pulling the seat. Everything stays dry. Makes for a nice, neat, weatherproof professional install....
If I remove my saddlebag, everything just unplugs.....nice, neat and simple....
One thing nice about this setup, you can charge up your bike, or with the looong cord in the tender kit, you can charge up your friends bike, too. Makes it nice on the road, gas station, or motel....no dissassembly required....
Even your tire pump will still plug into the battery, same plug....theres alot of options
