Fall Haul

Fall Haul 2015, Hillsboro, WI

We hosted Ray (rayski271) and his fiancé Kathy this past weekend who trekked up from Chicago to join us for the Fall Haul. We met them on Friday in Prairie du Chien about noon and headed north on WI 35 after lunch. This route runs along the Great River and has many beautiful vistas and some of the greatest riding between southeastern MN and southwestern WI. We made it to St. Paul about 6:00 p.m., enjoying pizza/drinks while visiting. Saturday morning we were ksu at 7:45 a.m. and headed to Delano, MN to meet up with a group that included Denny and Sally (dmac). There were 16 bikes and 31 people who headed southeast thru Welch and crossed the river at Red Wing, MN. We lunched at Bucknuckle’s Bar & Grill in Praag, WI, an eclectic rural biker friendly bar in the middle of nowhere that has a windmill fan, albino deer, saw blade tables and other quirky nuances too numerous to mention but so worth the ride. After lunch we rode county roads and went thru Wildcat State Park and onto Hillsboro, WI where we stayed the night.

The Hotel has a restaurant/bar attached and is a great place to spend the night or use as a Rally Central, hint, hint!

Sunday morning we were ksu at 9:30 a.m. and hit more county roads before heading north on WI 35. We got home 6 p.m., just long enough to make dinner plans and make it an early night as Monday morning ksu was at 6:00 a.m. We escorted Ray and Kathy as far south as LaCrosse, WI where we said our goodbye's.
I remember Ray’s first sight of Lake Pepin had him baffled that it was actually a river, and likewise, his fiancé this trip had the same thoughts having never seen the Mississippi before. Despite the cooler temps, they both commented on the beautiful riding areas and are thinking of making time to travel back not only during the winter, but again next summer for some first-hand fun in the water/river. It was a pleasure having Ray and Kathy join us here in the great white north for some great riding and camaraderie.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the sad and tragic news from the Antlers’ Oklahoma Rally which had just started the day before we met up with Ray and Kathy. A painfully true reminder that even the most experienced of riders can have bad days with tragic results. R.I.P. Old dog.

Yes, sometimes in mere seconds things can go horribly wrong.

All I know is you guys were missed in Antlers. Now I know why you guys keep going back to Antlers all these years. Absolutely beautiful place to ride. I was thinking that you were missing out but you had your own fun.

Antlers is an awesome Rally and you can be sure that Ray and I will be back next year.
We both had things that interfered with a 7 day Rally so we did what we could in 4 days.
As for pictures, they will be coming in the next few days as I am trying to gather all of the pictures taken by all those that attended and put together a nice album.

I was able to pick out a few things somewhat buried within the text though.

Ray is engaged, and our NCR 2016 rally is in Hillsboro. Pretty good of me... huh?

We missed all of you this year. Trip brought the cigars and we saluted Ray anyway.
Ray's engaged? Congratulations!
I guess that's enough reason for not coming this year, but there will be one more for next year.

Looks like you NC gals & guys have a dress code?

We ride in anything from mesh jackets to T shirts here.
