gas cap help

i have a 05 nomad 1600 and it seems to vapor lock when it shut off for a short period.
example: ride to the store, (3plus miles) go inside get a couple items, come out, seems to not want to start, starving for fuel.

then when i fuel up, it always spills out the overflow under the tank once im underway. now im only filling the tank until it touches the bottom of the inner sleeve inside the filler neck.

i took the cap off, took it partly apart, but found nothing that stood out.

anyone else have a similar issue?

thanks for the input!

Your only supposed to fill to the bottom of the filler neck with the bike on the side stand. This leaves room for expansion.
Check and be sure the tank vent hose is not plugged.

I have never had this problem but chances are one of two hoses connected at the rear of the tank are either plugged or crimped . I would remove the rear bolt holding the tank down and prop it up on a 2x4 . Then remove each hose one at a time and blow some air ( compressor ) through them . When putting the tank back down make sure the hoses aren't crimping down through the frame .

Hope this helps !!

if gas goes into the air vent hose it can block return air into the gas tank, and when you shut the bike off and it will not start again, could be from a vacuum inside the tank, the vacuum in the tank could prevent the bike from starting, blow the gas out of the air vent hose , the hard was was to put your mouth on the hole under the gas cap and blow the gas out of that hose
