Texas Hill Country Trip... Leakey, TX Lodging
As Wanderer stated in the other Texas Hill Country thred, rooms are going quick at the D'Rose Inn in Leakey Texas for April 26, 27, 28 & 29, 2010. So, if you definately are coming, it might be wise to go ahead and make your reservations. And it will save you money if you can split the room with someone.
I called and made my reservations today and found that the following is left: 5 - 2 bed, 1 bath cabins (100.00 a night) 1 - 2 bed, 1 bath cabin (160.00 a night) <s>1 - 1 bed (queen), 1 bath cabin (85.00 a night)</s> The lady that owns and operates the D'Rose Inn (Deb), is the greatest person in the world. I have stayed there several times and although one might think the prices are a little steep, keep in mind that the Leakey, Texas area is a high traffic, tourist area for motorcycles, especially during Spring and Fall months. Her number is 830-232-5246 or http://www.droseinn.com . Once you make your reservation with Deb, she will be glad to explain her cancellation policy to you. Just keep in mind, she has been stiffed many times by motorcyclists and had to come up with a cancellation policy that is pretty firm. Above all, just remember, if you have to cancel, do it at least 11 days or more from your time of stay. She will still have to charge you a small charge for the reservation, but it will be a lot less. Although I know Deb and have stayed there, she does not give discounts (she doesn't have to due to the area). So, I guess what I'm saying is, just gut up the room prices and cancellation policy and chalk it up to the type of area we will be riding in. It's the number one rated area in Texas to ride motorcycles. Except for the hot part of summer and the really cold part of winter, there's usually 2-wheelers all over the place. One good thing for us is, we'll be there during the week and not the weekend. The crowd will be smaller. Now, if you can't get a room at the D'Rose Inn, there are several other places, but the price probably won't be any cheaper. One is the Frio Canyon Lodge, www.friocanyonlodge.com - (830) 232-6800 which is down the street from the D'Rose. I have stayed here before, nice place. Another is the Whiskey Mountain Inn, www.whiskeymountaininn.com - (830) 232-6797 but I've never stayed there, so I can't tell you how good or bad it is. If you want to camp, the best place is Garner State Park which is about 10 miles South of Leakey. There are no national chain places to stay or eat at in Leakey. Everything is mom and pop, locally owned and operated. There are some good places to eat, like Chicken Earl's, some german restaurants and a place called the Feed Lot, which was written up in Texas Monthly several years ago for they're highly prized chicken fried steak. There is a fairly nice Italian restaurant in Leakey, but I understand it will be closing at the end of this year. We can eat at these places or if we want to, we can buy steaks and potatoes at the grocery store and have a cookout on the D'Rose Inn grounds. There's a pavillion with a pit grill and plenty of space. Maybe we can twist Jim and Mitch's arms to do the cooking. Oh and just in case you were wondering, Leakey went wet several years ago, there are places across the street from the D'Rose that sells booz. So, there you have it. Let me know if anyone has any questions. Thanks, Trip

Texas Hill Country Trip... Leakey, TX Lodging
There is another alterative. We traveled through Leakey and stayed at a house on the Frio right on 337 just about 2 miles from downtown. It was cheap for two couples or individuals,as the case may be when splitting the cost. Lots of room and a kitchen, porch big yard and bar-b-q. Don't have the info now but it's not hard to find. Do a search, houses for rent, Leakey.
Something else to think about.
