John,

Here's a link to Gadget's page for all kinds of info on the Nomad. I can't answer your question on the resistor (others here can though).

Tom

The resistor mod is for the pinging problem on the 1600. It makes the bike run a tad richer because the factory setting is too lean. It sounds like you are running lean already without the mod. ( backfiring is a sign of being too lean). The only real test would be with a dyno run.

Backfiring CAN be a sign of running too lean but not always. Generally when you put aftermarket pipes on you are now noticing the backfire that existed all along but the stock pipes made it unoticable.

Air Temp Sensor

My 05 had a hesitation and surge when I'd crack the throttle and take off. A TFI took care of it...so I guess the resistor would too.

Air Temp Sensor

John,
I have a Cobra Fi2000 which I could never seem to get adjusted right. I put a 500 ohm resistor on the air temp sensor and my bike "woke up". I have turned down the FI settings to 2.4.0 from 3.5.0 and am now running 87 octane gas with not a hint of pinging or popping on decelleration. I'm sold on the resistor mod. If I didn't already have the Cobra FI module, I would probably have installed a 1000 ohm resistor.
