brake wire

OK! I'd like to put more brake lights or running lights on the back of my bike. I checked Gadgets site but doesn't help. The easiest place to tap into the wires for me is at the fuse block, right? but which friggin wire is for the brakes????? I know which is the fuse but can't tell which wire. I don't have a wiring diagram.

I hate working in tight places!

The plug under the seat is hot all the time so thats no good and the wiring harness on top of the battery is to small to work on.

No Tim i'm not going to the stealer neither

Funny man :(" title="" border="0"/>

Lar, you can buy an ice pick type current tester at Walmart for under $5.
Then it is easy to distinguish between wires.
That's how I did my LED brake/running lights on my saddle bags.
It was awhile ago so I don't remember what was what now.

I have a tester I just thought someone would know before I start poking holes in the wires.

OK! I get it, the Plug under the seat is HOT all the time. I didn't say the oulet is HOT under her seat

Don't poke holes in the wires. ::)
Put the end of the tester in the connector so it touches the metal.

Larry I tapped into the tail light harness under the seat just before it disappears into the fender. I made pig tails and put quick disconnect plugs on them for my aux brake and running lights. Black and yellow is ground, red is running lights and blue is brake.

The easiest place to tap into the brake light circuit is the taillight wiring harness. Either under the seat where it connects to the main chassis harness, or inside the rear fender behind the brake light. Which place depends on what it is you're trying to do, and whichever place makes more sense.

Not much room behind the tail light unless you take the tire off.

No, you can get in there, even with the tire on. I have done it.

When I put the Elec Connection turn signal coversion kit on mine I went behind the brake light had to remove the trailer hitch to get to it but laying flat of my back and wearing saftey glassess(dirt falling when taking cover off) it was not too bad.

The 1600's have a box like cover under the fender behind the tail light. That cover has a small drain hole which probably is clogged with fine sand. I forget if it has 2 nuts and bolts of 4.

But the wiring is easy to pick off there for brake/run lights.

The brake wire is a light blue, and the run lights is red.

I chose that location to splice in my brake run lights, because running wire thru the fender loops with a tire on is a pain.

I spliced my wires just before the wires go into the rear fender.
More room to work and you don't have to run the wire under the fender.
Just out from under the seat and into the side of the saddle bags with a quick disconnect.
Of course if you are not mounting you lights on the bags your set up will vary.

I tied into the same place. I have some LED's on my saddlebags also. They act as run/brake. Ran the wire under the chrome spacer between the fender and bags, into the bag itself and out the back. to the lights.

I looked at the box behind the fender, had to take my glasses off to see. As I reached up to the bolts to see how much room I had dirt fell in my face. So I decided to do it Norms way. It done looks and works great. thanks to everyone.
