Too Dumb to Shift

Headed north this morning I downshifted to 4th fear as I went through the 167 and I-405 interchange just south of Seattle. 50 miles later I got off of freeway for gas. As I downshifted to a stop, I only had three gears to drop down...ooops, 50 miles without shifting back to 5th. Didn't really notice any loss of power or problems. I was curious about my MPG...got 37.5 MPG for that leg. Later, I gassed up again after using 5th gear and got almost 43 MPG. What a great ride!

I find myslef looking for 6th gear sometimes. Especially after putting the CT with the 60 aspect ratio.

What really ticked me off one time....I was racing a Camaro (just couldn't resist) on my Nomad I had him beat up until about 70-75, he barely got me before the next stop light....I was in 5th and didn't realize I had another gear. I know racing is stupid....but it was a 4 lane road with no one on it and I was in a playful mood...only time I have raced the Nomad in over a year....since I wasn't very good at it I guess I won't do it again.

We all have to let the kid in us come out ever now and then.

As far as the downshift, I haven't done that with the Nomad but I dropped down to 4th with the Honda VTX1300 one time and rode about 15 miles without realizing it.

Can't you actually go faster in 4th before the rev limiter kicks in?

I knew it had one, but I've never bumped up against it in 10 years of riding a Nomad.

Sure Dan.........

The rev limiter will kick in at 5900rpms... That equates to 116mph real mph. On the optimistic speedo that means indicating over 125mph. Our bikes might do 116 real mph's but you'd have to take the windscreen off....

Geez Dan, that sorta sucks the life out of your famous erased post: Daring, boastfully aggressive rider has never hit the rev limiter? C'mon, fess up.

I hit he rev limiter in 1st gear once.
I was disappointed since I could tell it still had more power.
