Thanks. I will or I won't get one. It got old trying to "upgrade" my Nomad to include things I wanted. Much easier to just buy a bike with all that stuff straight from the factory. If I buy a holdover '11 or '12 by the end of the month, I get a $500-$2500 rebate, $500 in accessories/apparel and a 5 year warranty. I would imagine the offer will carry over to the following year, at least on the warranty which is more important to me than the factory discount. If I figure in winter pricing plus the bike being a holdover to begin with (and I'm willing to do some out of state shopping), I can get a good deal even without the factory rebate. I could figure out some way to use the accessories/apparel credits but I'm not much into "brand" clothing and there aren't that many accessories I'd want. (iPod cable, Stage I and lower wind deflectors are about it...a grand total of about $1000.) The Vision has about everything else I want, stock except for an Utopia backrest ($189 and it takes about 15 minutes to install). So, I figure I'll spend about $1500 in addition to the price of the bike. When I get done, I won't have much more in it than I did the Nomad and I will have started out with a brand new bike. It'll be the first brand new vehicle I've ever owned. I just gotta find one now.
The Nomad is a good bike but just not what I was after. I'd still like to have one for in town cruising when I win the lottery. Bone stock but with the loudest pipes I can find and a set of Don Myers handlebars. Just to appease my rebel side. :)

I got $5800 on my 2006 on trade for a 2012 VV. After sampling the market, sadly I didn't see myself doing any better selling outright. Especially if you figure in the extra sales tax without the trade on the new bike. Your example just confirms I made the right choice. It's a damn shame we can't get what we should out of our bikes. That's one thing I'll concede to the Harley crowd - value retention.

There are a few makes that keep their resale value. Harley, Victory and BMW are 3 that come to mind. Then there are the limited production bikes that always hold their value like the Honda Rune. Sold brand new for $28k and still bringing in $20-22k 10 years later. KBB and NADA are supposed to be the average of what a certain make/model sold for. I don't know how often they update their lists (I'm guessing about once every 20 years) but I rarely see anything that sells for what the KBB/NADA values are, even at dealerships. My Nomad had an average retail value (bone stock) of about $7500. I didn't even get that with a HD fairing and a basically brand new HD Tour Pak. Granted, I could have got a bit more in the spring or I could have kept the price high and eventually found just the one right buyer willing to pay but that could have taken months or even years.

Hey Monkey,
You do know that if you get the Victory you'll have to join the lowly ranks of the Enthusiasts. A casted-off, disgraced member. Lower that scum water. And if you go to a rally, you'll have to stand in front of everyone and, while doing you best Jimmy Swaggart impression, announce to all, "I have sinned!" Plus at the last night dinner, you will no long be able to sit at the big people's table. You'll be sitting at the folding table next to the kitchen door. |

Hey monkey, have you checked out the Victory dealer in Ft Wayne? Can't remember the name of place but it is across the street from Texas Roadhouse.
Anyway, a friend of mine bought a CC there last fall, said they had the best prices around. Said they don't really dicker, just offer a certain price that no one else would touch.
