Obamacare Passes

Was ruled Constitutional today. Roberts (conservative) wrote the opinion.

In my opinion this opens up everything for our government. Buy a Volt, to share in the responsibility of employing folks in the car industry, and if you don't we will apply a "I didn't purchase a Volt TAX.

Interesting thoughts:

Conservative Chief Justice Roberts voted with the liberals stating the mandate is nothing but a tax and Congress has that authority. Problem is is that states can refuse to participate in the act and congress cannot withhold medicare/medicaid funding as punishment. That part was ruled 7/2 Unconstitutional. Interesting. 27 states already stated they will not participate.

68% of American voters are against this program and Roberts in his opinion wrote that if the people feel this new program is not right for them then that's what the "voting" process is about. Almost tacitly stating to vote Obama out of office and have Mitt overturn the new law? Very interesting.... Roberts still pissed me off!

I believe that politics should not enter into a decision, but I think that it does. What the Medicaid decision does is not to clear except they cannot take away funding (for Medicaid)
but they let the penalty (oops TAX) pay for all those that are not added in states that refuse to participate. Works into the plans for a single payer system. Maybe its time to withdraw from my medical plan and save 12k a year.

Before saying anything I will state that I do not like Obamacare.

Now, I do find it interesting how opinions change. 2 yrs ago as the debate raged over Obamacare, most Rs (including me) were saying the individual mandate was a "tax". Now that the SC has confirmed their opinion, they don't like it.

I have great respect for the SC. They now have shown the only way to change this "tax" is to change the law.

I'm agreeing with you Bill. They've shown all morning Obama stating "It's not a tax" to sell his bill. the SCOTUS says it is a tax. Therefore someone wasn't telling the truth. Maybe Roberts did the R's a favor by stating not all law are good and that's why we have the voting process. I want to hear Obama try to celebrate he won but discredit Robert's remarks about it is a tax.

Was with a client when the ruling came out. He owns multiple businesses and told me that one of his companies would likely shut-down if Obamacare isn't repealed.

He said the business barely keeps its doors open, but he has kept it running because he knows the employees of that company need their jobs, and would not likely find other similar work. The added financial burden on this company would likely make it run too far in the red for his other businesses' profit to be able to cover for very long. He said this situation is a prime example of the unintended consequences of Obamacare.

I speak to mid-sized business owners regularly and can tell you that an overwhelming number of them said Obamacare will have an impact on their fiscal ability to maintain their employee numbers or to consider hiring.

So, for those that are "for" Obamacare, be careful of what you wish for...

Don't worry he won't be

Interesting that 68% do not like the mandate but a majority like all benefits of the program. Pretty much sums up our society, we like the perks, we do not like to pay for them.

This has been hashed and rehashed multiple times on this forum.

One question I posted a while ago is now answered.

I asked will Obama still be a communist socialist, or a host of other names if SCOTUS upholds the law. I see one person in this thread still thinks so.

Unless Roberts decision to call it a tax is his attempt to destroy his reelection.

Obamaians can hold themselves proud that they have officially imposed a new tax upon the masses; as defined in Chief Justice Robert's brief on the ruling -- which simply says that the mandate is constitutional because it clearly falls under the category of being a tax, and the Fed can impose taxation.

I would call this a weak victory for those in favor of this travesty of a bill.

So now Obama gets to do an about-face during his campaign to defend his earlier statements that the "fines" are NOT a "tax". I expect Obama to be fairly good at it since he has had a lot of practice dancing around his long-list of lies and flip-flops over his life-time. It will be enjoyable for me to see him squirm again while keeping a straight face.

Well the SCOTUS just ruled; and it IS indeed nothing else but a "tax" by definition; which is the only reason it was upheld.

So welcome to the beginning of the era of suppressing, job-killing taxation on our nation... all under the premise of being "for the good of the nation".

This afternoon, many of your bosses or bosses' bosses are discussing their business plans, and I am fairly assured it will not be plans to hire more people... and possibly it involves "who is going to be laid-off".

Other businesses are without a doubt making plans to shut-down and move.

Don't believe so? Just wait... the aftermath of this bill has yet to lower its ugly-head against those who think it is a "great-thing".

The government, in it's presentation to the SCOTUS, did indeed argue that the mandate was a tax. Tell the folks one thing and then push what it really is. Perhaps some folks don't realize the level of taxation that is going to be leveled. Health care was not made free to all today, no matter what some may say. Is the president a socialist ..... no he is just a Marxist and proves it anytime he speaks.
