KNOW - "KawaNOW Nomad Owners Wrenching" Session

First of all, let me give credit to BillMac who originally brought this up in a poll recently. Based off of his idea, I offer the following thought. Let's start having "KNOW" Sessions... KawaNOW Nomad Owner/Operator Wrenching Sessions.

Except on very rainy or very cold days, a KNOW Session can be held anytime of the year. Here's how it will work:

1. A KawaNOW member can volunteer their garage for the day. In their garage, they will have the basic tools to perform basic maintenance on a Nomad.
2. At a designated date and time, the KawaNOW member can hold a "KNOW" Session and have all Nomad owners in their general area over to their garage... preferably a Saturday or Sunday.
3. The KNOW Session will last only one day... Preferably Nomad Owners can come from no more than 100 miles away (2 hour travel time).
4. Once the Nomad Owners arrive, they can perform simple maintenance tasks or procedures on their Nomads with the aid of everyone's help and knowledge. Maybe someone might want to change their oil and filter -or- maybe someone might want to perform a bafflectomy. If nothing needs to be done to their Nomad, then just come for the Nomadradery.
5. All parts and supplies can be brought with them -or- swapped/traded.
6. If the Nomad Owner doesn't know how to perform the procedure, then the group can show the owner how to perform the operation.
7. Maybe pizza or sandwiches can be delivered for lunch. Everyone shares in the expense.
8. At the end of the day, everyone leaves and get's home at a decent hour.

Several things can be accomplished with a KNOW Session:
a. It gives Nomad owners in a general area a chance to get to know each other and socialize
b. It gives Nomad owners an opportunity to perform needed maintenance on their Nomads with the help and support of the group
c. It gives Nomad owners a chance to put some travel time on their Nomads

If you live in an area where there are Nomad Owners that would like to get together for a day and are willing to have everyone over to your garage... get with your Regional Leader and plan a KNOW Session. Use the various Group boards for KNOW Session communication, announcements and planning.

It's also been suggested by Tony that maybe we could make videos from the Sessions...kind of like a demo video showing how to do stuff. Not a bad idea.

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to ask me. I'll be glad to oblidge.

Let's hold KNOW Sessions all over the US, Canada... the world! Who KNOWS.....ya might learn something from it and make some Nomad friends to boot.

Thanks,
Trip

I agree with my fellow landsman here.
It's a fine idea to gather people that way.
Sometimes I wish I was an American.
But..always but..I'm not,and I don't even have a garage.
Anyway..let us know the outcome if it happens.
Good luck.

OK but a "KawaNOW Nomad Owners Wenching" Session might be more fun.

I'd definitely want to attend one of those.

Won't work. Trip would have to modify Rule #8 for that.

Cool,

Today, 7/29/10, my garage from 4pm to 6pm......I will buy all the beer you guys can drink and perform any mods you wish. Sorry, offer expires at 6pm. Gotta run to the store for the beer but will be back by 5. I sure hope I don't have much leftover that I am forced to drink myself....that would just be tragic

Trip, I think that is an excellent idea. I would travel a little further, to learn more from the group.

Trip, sounds like you have put a lot of thought and experience into this issue.

Clearly it would be an opportunity for us to have more Kawanow Group fellowship and maybe learn something about Nomads at the same time.

I appreciate you flushing out the Tech poll and its positive response to form the Kawanow "KNOW" Wrenching Sessions.

I am going to immediately contact our Kawanow South Central Group representatives to offer our garage/shop to host a "KNOW" event.

Sounds great Bill. Get something organized in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and I'd love to attend.

We used to do this when I was a member of MOOT...Magna Owners Of Texas. That's when I owned a 1998 Honda Magna. We would hold wrenching session in various members garage. I learned alot from those sessions.

Sounds like a plan Mike. Get in the SouthCentral board and see if anyone is interested in the Houston area.

Youre right down Fairmont from me, Sounds like a great plan. Set a Date and I'd bet some other locals would come out of the shadows where they are lurking. I'd like to add an electric outlet to Lucille but am not comfortable fooling with the electrical system. The spare in the headlight bucket was taken to power the light bar so plan B will be in order. I know a new rider/Nomad owner nearby who would likely join in as well.
