Most are using 195/60R-16

Brands vary but Dunlop SP5000 is one of the most popular. That is what I went with, mainly because everybody using it liked it.

Check out the Darksider website BD listed above as well as http://mcdarksiders.forumotion.com

OK everybody. 2001, 1500 Nomad anyone know what car tire would fit? Looked on the dark side and all they show are 1600's. Brian is currently running a 160/80/16 on the rear and has wanted to switch to a car tire for years since the cost of motorcycle tires in Canada is really expensive (if you buy the 'good' tires). We have talked to numerous bikers that run car tires and other than a bit of muscle needed in a tight curve, they all say they run and feel the same but get way better mileage.

Here's a post from the Hooligans Cruisers website made my caddmannQ:

I've heard it said, and said myself that the 1500 Nomad is too narrow in the rear for any car tire available but it looks like I was wrong.

This is from "Critterslave" on the Delphi "Riding the Darkside" Forum, July 5th, 2008:

I mounted a 205/60-16 Goodyear Eagle LS on the rear of my 01 Nomad. The sidewalls get pulled in a lot because of the 3 1/2 inch rim but it seems to work just fine. This 205/60 tire is about 8 inches wide when standing loose but on the rim it's 6 3/4 and fits into the swingarm with no trouble. It even goes by the differential with very little interference. According to the charts it is supposed to be 25 1/2 inches tall, same as the stock 150/80-16 tire. The sidewalls are really soft so it goes on the rim easy. A stiffer sidewall might be a good idea because running flat is NOT an option - it goes as flat as a pancake. The rear end gets a little wiggly when I jerk the handlebars with a trailer hooked up (which I don't normally do anyway except to find out what might happen) but 40 psi makes it acceptable.
I have about 1/8 inch clearance on the driveshaft and 3/16 on the right side.
After 4000 km (2500 miles) I'm sorry I didn't do this years ago."

Now I haven't tried this myself, and I do not know Critterslave personally, so truly I cannot guarantee this will work. If you're going to try it, try it at your own risk, OK. I'm not gonna pay for that oversized tire you bought if it doesn't fit.

Meantime I'll try and get in touch with Critterslave and see how the darkside is working for him these days.

I read Caddmann's post too.....and to think I was nervous putting ct on 4.5" rim.

Personally, No way on 3.5" rim
