? about progressive air pump

For those that have a progressive zero loss pump. Mine did not come with very good directions.

When I put it on should it show how much air is in the shock or does it only read how much is being pumped in? I bought my bike in May and was very stern with the dealer to check the air. they said they put it at 30. Today I got my pump in the mail and put it on and it read 0?

Do you notice your shocks lose air? Or should I be concerned about seals?

When you screw on the fitting do it fast. If it hissed you're too slow.

I have the MotoFox pump which is similar. When you screw it on the gage shows the pressure in the shocks, but if you touch that little black button on the pump it'll all leak out in a second.

They can lose air over time. If they're losing air fast the valve core might be loose. Remember the spit test? Check to see if the core is leaking. It may be loose or damaged.

If the seals are bad, the shock will usually leak oil & you can see it at the bottom bolt area.

If the dealer stupidly pumped up the shocks with an air compressor, the bladders may be blown out. You'll probably know if you pump and pump and they leak down as fast as you can pump.

Depends.

If I'm riding fast with a full load I'll use 40.

I have a progressive air pump. If there is air in the shocks when you attach the valve, it will read on the gauge. Those bladders only hold a small amount of air, and you can release all of it and be at 0 in a split-second.

My progressive pump works just like CJ's, I fill mine to 35 lbs, and my shocks leak down on there own over time. When I start bottoming out on potholes or entering driveways I can tell that its time to check the pressure.

Thanks guys. I am sure I screwed it on too slow. There isn't much room there. I will try the spit test to check for leaks. Haven't seen any sign of leaking seals though.

I take my seat off to check my shocks. Mine haven't lost any air this year they were still where I set them for riding 2 up. I just let some out yesterday as now I ride solo. Cindy has her own bike.

I have one and it works fine. My bike had 0 in it when I first checked it. I ride with 30 in it. I think 42 is the max.

I put a equalizer line on between the shocks then hooked it up to a gauge and a filler valve. It does not leak. I alway know how much air is in the shocks by looking at the gauge. I put in 30lbs when loaded and set the damper on two. I drop the air down to 25, damper on two when solo and no gear. Seems to work very well. I made a bracket for filling which is mounted on the passenger side crash bar mount above the pass. floorboard...easy access. ..Bdog

I never had any problem with losing air when checking the shocks. I use the third position and about 13-15 pounds per shock. Works fine single, or two up. If we're carrying a load (luggage) 20 pounds does fine.
Of course, your experience may vary. Heheheh!

I've found, the little button on the side will not release all the air with one push. Each time you push the button, a little air comes out.
I ride with about 20, rebound on 4 two up, 3 by myself.
If we load up both saddle bags and luggage rack I bump the air up to 40-42

So in the end what does the ride feel like at 0 and at 35lb? I haven't checked mine and have ridden a fair bit both loaded up and solo, really didn't feel a difference.

With 30 pounds in each shock riding solo the bike beats the hell out of me on bad road seams ansss bumps.
With 2 pounds in as I have now the ride is much les jarring.
