front tire mileage

Recently checked the air pressure in the tires. Very surprised at the lack of tread on the front tire, mostly bald and not an even wear pattern. Metzler ME 880, 150/80-16 Had 8800 miles on it. Very poor in my opinion.
I immediately ordered a new tire(different brand) and am safe again.

Just a reminder to keep close eye on maintenance items. But curious as to the mileage you are getting on front tires. What are your tires wear miles?

I have always gotten around 15K-to 20K on front tires. I expected the same and was shocked at how badly it was worn after so few miles.

I haven't had a Nomad in a couple years but I did have a Victory Vision for 2 years (just sold it). I bought it brand new and put just under 14k miles on it. I sold it with the original front tire which probably had another 5-6k miles left. I rode the Vision pretty aggressively. Are your roads extremely rough (gritty, not bumpy)? How often did you check your air pressure? (You need to check it regularly, but especially in the spring and fall since the tire pressure will change with the ambient temps.) FWIW, the Vision has a Dunlop E3. Good traction and excellent wear (on the front...crappy on the rear).

I had 20,000 kms on the front tire and 23,000 kms on the rear tire of my Nomad when I sold it. The tires were still in good shape, Avon Cobras.

I ran Avon Cobra's front and rear on my Nomad. Got about 14,000 on a front and around 10,000 on the rear. However I am pretty sure I change my tires a bit faster than most people do so for many there would be a couple of thousand still left on each of those tires.

When I bought my 07 Nomad it had 6700 miles on it and had the OEM tires. Front tire had lots of tread left and the rear maybe a couple thousand miles left on it. I changed them due to age (they were 7 years old), I now have Metzler 880's. I have put 5,000 miles on them and still look great.
The fewest miles I ever got on a tire was 3500 on the stock front Dunlop on my 09 Concours.
This is the OEM with 6700 miles on it

This is my 880 with about 5,000

That is surprisingly low. I was always in the same 15,000-20,000 range, usually 20ish on the front tire on my 06 Nomad. Did you run a lot of twisty roads compared to other tires...My miles were always heavy to freeway and straight, given the general nature of roads in Michigan.

Believe it or not, I was right around 37K miles on a rear MC Michenlin Commander 11 front tire, when i sold the bike. Still had mucho tread left! when my Shinko front tire wears out, I will for sure go with another Michelin rear MC tire on front!

Avon Cobra. So far I've got 16,718 miles on it. Got enough tread on it for another 1,000 miles I'd say.

Arizona uses a lot of chipseal on their roads so very rough texture in places (especially when first laid down).

Tire wear will vary depending on the operators driving habits and his local road conditions. Someone who is an aggressive driver or who rides on poor road conditions will get less mileage as will not maintaining good tire pressure.
That being said 8800 miles seems pretty poor for a Metzler 880. I've read Metzlers are being manufactured in two countries and the tires from one (Brazil?) don't wear as well as the tires from the other.
I'm an aggressive driver, accelerating and braking hard and driving hard into the corners and I generally get 12K to 15K out of a front.

You did well mate, i got just over 6000 out of my rear Avon cobra, but on our small twisting road's with a lot more accelerating/braking and banking over that probably is'nt surprising. I've got a pair of Maxxis whitewall's on at the moment and they feel really good in the bend's, let's see how long they last

I mostly ride on the highways and to and from work. No mountain rides. Air pressure kept around 41psi. Dark side rear with 28k on it and doing fine.
Front tires are very easy to change but really surprised at the low mileage of tire life.

That must be pretty boring,55mph on a straight road would piss me right off

I got close to 14,000 miles out of a rear Metzler ME880WWW(150/80/16) on my 02 Nomad !
BUT that tire was mfg in France (as I recall-maybe Germany)
I'v gone thru two of the same tire mfg in Brazil..and by 4000 miles they came apart UNSAFE !
I'm still running Metzler ME880www 150/80/16 on the front (Brazilian mfg.) have had no quality/safety isssues to date..and average around 12,000 miles between replacements

Man thats great , I never got better than 4k on my 1500 Classic before she killed the bear. I just put a set of Commander II on Old Blue ( 04 Nomad). Really hope to get at least 10k out of them. If not I will have to ride the Ducati on my next Blue Ridge trip.
