think this will work?
After getting my chuckster hitch (thanks again joe) installed, I am making a hitch haul and mounting a rather big, poly tool box. I'm putting lights ect on it, but it also covers the plate. Now the question, do you think that a "copy" of some sorts of my plate, mounted in view on the outside of the box would suffice, or do you think I will have to pull the plate each time I use the box then mount it on the box.

In Louisiana you would have to relocate the plate. You'd get one warning if you weren't stopped for something else. I've seen bikes down here with brackets on the side with the plate fastened vertically??? I asked one guy if it was legal to display a tag in that fashion and he said it was in Louisiana.

You'll have to figure out a different place to put the plate on the bike or you'll have to take it off and mount it on the box. A copy will only get you pulled over quicker.
Maybe you can figure out some sort of quick release for the plate?

Here in Ontario we would need a seperate trailer plate that would belong to the trailer.

In Utah you could register the trailer and get a separate plate. Costs a little more that way but much more convenient.

I kind of get the impression that he is mounting a box like zoom45's signature pic (below), but may be off on that. If there are no extra wheels, then it is not a trailer and should not need a separate plate. I doubt they would like a copy of the plate though, and side mounted plates are mixed, I think it is in Florida, even an out of state bike will get ticketed I have heard.

I think it's an unnecessary risk if your plate is obscured. Cops like to be able to see that shiny aluminum plate, and a copy would only compound the situation. Mount the plate on the box when it's on the hitch. I know, I know, that's a PITA, but it's better than a citation.

I do have a separate plate on my trailer but when I just have the hitch box on the bike, you can see my regular bike tag over the box so it's not an issue. I also have additional lights on the box.

yea, I'm doing a box like zoom, but it's a bit bigger. been trying to get a shade shorter box but it's either what I got or much smaller. With my cepap and other things I need a bit extra bulk. I figured I'd have to remove from the bike each time I put it on just wondered if someone had or have seen other options..

This shows how my tag is seen over the box

I would think as long as the tag is visible, you shouldn't have a problem.
