Insurance 101
Learned a valuable lesson yesterday. Went with buddy on a 2 hour trip (off and on in rain) to look at a used bike he was thinking about buying. After negotiations and test ride the deal was done and we headed home (again off and on rain). Less than 10 minutes after purchase the new purchase was destroyed in an off-road impact with a tree. Still not sure what happened......curve (off camber?)/rain/brake grab.........but end result was bike will probably be totaled out. Straightened handlebars (somewhat)....beat down floorboards (somewhat).....fired up and headed home (after police report). Phone call with insurance company today ended up with following result (your policy may differ).......Bike is covered as policy holder currently has full coverage motorcycle policy (on street legal enduro purchased for daughter). If there had been no pre-existing policy the bike would have been an expensive lesson. Something to remember in future definitely!!!!!!!!

Yes a person needs to make sure they are covered. We never know when something like that could happen. Thanks for the information.

I don't know about other states, or buying from individuals, but here in Georgia, you have to have insurance before it leaves the dealership. If your trading a bike in, the new bike is covered under the old bike's policy until you get it switched over.

In PA you would have thirty days of coverage under existing policy however, if your your old policy did not have full coverage and you wanted full coverage on your new ride you would have to make that endorsement before you picked up the bike to be covered. (full coverage is always required by a lien holder on the vehicle)
So...if you a'thinkin to trade up from your 1984 Suzuke 450GS to that new Vaquero you might want to get some comparison prices on insurance.
