Need another bike

I'm starting to get just a little tired of wrestling the heavy Nomad ALL the time. Sometimes I just want something a bit smaller, lighter, a bit more nimble for a day's ride. I'm looking at a Suzuki V-Strom 1000 or a Triumph Scrambler, something that could possibly handle a fireroad. Who has multiple machines and what for?

Thats why I got three wifes. One kinda easy on the eyes that bears and raises the children, and keeps the house. Runs errands, that kinda thing. Another who's a Real Estate Agent, intelligent, affable, a good income earner. I can take her out to dinner, bike night and bike rallies. A third one who's a Trophy Wife who gets to sleep with me, that I buy jewelry and perfume for. She's the one I take to Cancun, Puerto Rico, Alaskan Cruises, that kinda thing.

Kawhead...with all that tang layin' around where do find time (or energy) to even make a post?

Used to be into dirt bikes and sometimes I wish I had a street legal dirt bike I could take out and do some romping on. Maybe a Kawasaki KR650 or such. Course, my bones are starting to get a little old for that stuff. I don't bounce as well as I used to.

For a smaller bike, I would like a Triumph Tiger 800 XCX.

2015 Triumph Tiger 800 XCX, TAKING DEPOSITS NOW! - The spirit of adventure isn’t just alive. It’s built into every single component of the new XCX. Fully equipped for long adventures with technology that adds improved handling and opens up whole new horizons, this is the Tiger taken to a different level. Selecting between three different riding modes, Road, Off-road and Programmable Rider Mode, you can configure your preferred throttle map, ABS and Triumph Traction Control, for a completely tailored and thrilling adventure ride. The dedicated trip computer and the cruise control enable you to amass miles with complete confidence. The off-road soul of the bike is emphasized by the adventure pack including hand guards, aluminum sump guard, center stand, additional power socket and engine protection bars.

I have 2 at the moment. My nomad which is my daily driver and the long haul bike and my chopper which I use for rallies and bike nights. I would love to get an older 883 Sportster with a solo seat and use it as my "play around" bike.

There are so many adventure type bikes out there. The Versys 650 and 1000, the Vstrom 650 and 1000, the Triumph Tiger 800, Explorer 1200, Yamaha Tenere, BMW F700GS, F800GS and R1200GS, KTM 990, 1190 and 1290 and Moto Guzzi Stelvio NTX. I am sure I missed a couple. It all depends on your wallet and the balance you want between the street and dirt. If I was going cheap, I'd get the Versys 1000LT. As good as the Vstrom with more power and more than competitive on price. If I was really into dirt roads, but wanted to tour and had the cash, I would get a BMW or KTM, the large displacement ones. The dark horse here is the Moto Guzzi. It's price is fair and it works well. Tractor reliable too and lots of character, but not a lot of dealers.

We have 4 bikes at this time.
My 08 Nomad my favorite.
Cindy's 2013 Victory Boardwalk, her favorite of all the bikes she has ever had
A 2001 800 Drifter I use for bike nites and just cruising when the mood strikes.
Cindy also has a 2010 900LT that is for sale.

As smooth and comfortable as my Nomad is out on the road, I love having the 800 Drifter for the shorter trips it is so much lighter and the center of gravity is so low it is a breeze to ride. I would not mind have a KLR 650 or something else dirt capable to have fun with as well.

Besides my 2012 Voyager, I still have my 1st bike, an 05 800 classic. Have owned both since new. The 800 is a fun/lighter bike. The Voyager is more comfy on long rides, but the 800 is alot more fun to throw into a curve.

Just missed a Suzi V-Strom 1000 on Friday. Sold 15 minutes before I got there. There'll be others; used bikes are plentiful in SoCal.

I pretty much have, unless I come across something that changes it?! I spotted a 2005 Triumph Scrambler that I stared at for some time. It reminds me of the Honda 450 Scrambler I had lo, these many years ago. I know they're not real dirt machines, but all I want is a smaller, lighter bike that can do a fire road maybe once in a blue moon.

Triumph scrambler is a good choice for what you are looking for, and pretty too.https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=tr...er%3B625%3B417

But so is the Kawasaki https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=tr...er%3B625%3B417

I have a DR650 that can do just about anything. They're bulletproof and can be had for a song. The gas tank is a bit small but I'm getting a 6.6gal Acerbis for my birthday in a couple of days. I guess they're not sexy enough for most people looking for an all-arounder, and for some reason people just want to spend a lot more money and get way more bike than they initially look in to. Like wanting to go light and dirt capable and ending up with a bike that's really neither. Dual sports like the DR, KLR, or XR are not in the same class as a big adventure tourer, but will accomplish the same mission if asked. A DL will do fire roads and take you across the country (IMO a 650 better than a 1000) but I think I'd hesitate to take one into Arches Park. The Triumph Scrambler is really a streetbike with scrambler pipes. I wouldn't get one expecting it be anything other than a streetbike. If the Scrambler was really Triumphs dual sport there wouldn't be a Tiger.

Of course it's no ones business but yours what you get as a second bike so good luck and happy hunting.
