macbook dead

I was starting to think my macbook would last forever.
Replacing it with a Sony Xperia Z2 tablet.
Now I have to figure out how to retrieve the documents still stored on the macbook.

Does the MacBook start up at all or is it a brick? Did it have a hard drive or just memory to store the info?

If it had a hard drive you can pull the hard drive and connect via usb to another system and transfer your files.

You would need something like this.

http://www.amazon.com/Drive-Adapter-...d+drive+reader

and another computer to hook it up to.

There's an Ap for that. . .
The Z2 tablet is pre-order until Saturday (5-3-2014). I'll get to figure out the rest when I have it in hand.
The Apple tech told me how to get the stuff from the macbook onto another device.

Everything works on the macbook except for the backlight. Its also backed up to an external hard drive. The tech recommended saving the files that I want to keep onto Cloud, then retrieve to the new device.

Can still use the macbook if I hard wire to an external monitor. That's a PITA so guess I have to spend some $$$.

They can be a pain. That's why I use 2 cloud services (Microsoft and Apple). Both services are available from any device and I don't worry about loosing anything.

I use SugarSync and Dropbox. Both are free up to a certain amount of data. The other nice feature is you can sync your tablet, phone, and computer. So everything looks the same. I have Tapatalk on all three devices. I can access and change any document on all three devices and it saves them all the same way to all three devices. It made my life so much easier.

I do pay an annual fee $60 for SugarSync but that is only because I have lots of work related files and pictures. I also have an external hard drive as well. I'm covered 3 ways!

Should I lose a device I can access all my documents and pictures from any computer anywhere that can get internet access.

I learned the hard way a couple years ago. I lost everything. That will not happen again. Everything I do from work to play is on my computer.

Last year I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 to carry on my travels instead of my big Toshiba laptop. A tablet is no substitute for a laptop or pc. I can keep up on my email and forums while on the road, but I wouldn't want to have to rely on it for everything. It's basically a larger version of my cell phone.

Droid's all the way here... s3 phone, Tab3-7" for on the go, & 10" for home. I have not picked up a laptop in yrs. I stack these on top of each other a few times a week to sync & never a prob.
These do anything my wifes higher end laptop does, & more. Camera's, tap-to-talk, voice recog, etc... Don't see the need to look back...
Just my opinion....

Tablets are good but cannot replace the laptop or desktop computer yet. If you have to use programs like Photoshop that you use on the desktop not online then you rely on a laptop or desktop. My wife and I both have MacBook 11 inch computers as well as iPads and iPhones, Everything is synced seamlessly with each device and cloud based services.

I agree that a tablet or phone is no substitute for a laptop or desktop if you do a fair amount of computer work.

CJ - I have the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet, and the Samsung note 3 phone... I call it a phablet due to its size. The phone is more versatile and user-friendly. I love drawing on pictures for work. Makes things easy to explain.

I find tablets are not as good processing as a laptop and not as convenient or versatile as a large phone. But they are easier to read than a phone. So I use it as my book reader when I go to bed.
