That's what I hear too... . I'm wondering if I should quit my job of 34 years (by then) in Jan 2012 and take the year to just tour the country on my Nomad while I still can.....hhhhhmmmmmm........... .

"West Coast" Rally 2011

Living in the middle of our great country, it's pretty much a moot point with me where the National Rally may be held. My only concern is that any Kawanow rally that conflicts with a National Kawanow rally should not be scheduled during the same month. BnG

"West Coast" Rally 2011

Glad you brought up the timing BnG.

I have decided that since I couldn't attend any of the regional rallys this year (except for the SCentral in Eureka Spring, AR.), I want to try and attend the National in 2011 -AND- the West Coast Rally, Kris and others are planning. That way, I can meet and see possibly everyone in KawaNOW.

This means that, if possible, the West Coast rally needs to be scheduled away from the National in another month. So, to facilitate the planning of the West Coast rally, I'm going to move this thread over to the National rally board.

Kris, let's make you the official leader of the West Coast Rally. Feel free to appoint any others to help you plan and execute the rally for 2011. Let's discuss and finalize the home base and the dates.

Thanks,
Trip

"West Coast" Rally 2011

Trip,

Kris and I had some discussion on this as to a joint NW/SW rally. We did mention that we did not want to conflict with the National in any way. So June is out. July is more than likely out as well as early August. We have some deserts to cross to get west of the Rockies. We did talk about either late August or early September. We know that this will conflict with anyone who works in a school system.

We do have a couple of locations in mind but will be doing some more work.

It's just the Aztec or Mayan calendar that only goes to 2012 right? So maybe we want to be considering sites well clear of the southern border of the country. . . ;)

Sounds good Joel. I'll keep tabs on this board while things are planned. Having the National in June and the West Coast in September would be great, but I realize others need to be considered.

I will throw in my vote. West Coast in September sounds good to me. You west coasters know the weather better then anyone else and I like the idea of the Oregon location, but am open to anywhere. I think it's a good idea too.

As Joel stated....we did have a brief discussion about this at the SW Rally....and agree we will not conflict with the National Rally.
September can be one of the most beautiful times of the year in the NW. I'm thinking late Aug or Sept. for the WC Rally would be most ideal. I'm gonna be busy with our Little League All Star Tournament for the next couple weeks....but I will be in touch with Joel, Greg and Jared and get their thoughts in the near future.

I have to agree that late Aug, early Sept. can be a beautiful time on the west coast. That and the fact it being a couple of months after the National sounds great! I'll be there if at all possible.

"West Coast" Rally 2011

Just noticed this Thread Kris. I in no way am driving west coast to east coast. I would attend a 2011 rally west coast if you got it together. I'm trying to see Trip's side as he states the east coast crowd couldn't attend Custer because of the distance so the 2011 is near the east coast and then 2013 go to the west coast like "Custer" ::) ::)

I must have taken Geography in the wrong country!! I would have bet money that Custer is not considered in the West or near the west coast .... I live 5 miles from the beach and Custer was 1300+ miles for me each way... We have the Grand Canyon, Lake Tahoe, Redwood Forest, Sequoia Nat'l Park and other really beautiful places out west to ride. Too bad it's not being considered. Late August or Sept would work for me Kris..

Well, actually the 2011 National is not being held on the east coast....it's being held in the eastern part of the US. Just like the National in 2009 had been held in the western part of the US. Maybe not as far west as BD would have liked it, but in the western part.

Would Long Beach, CA. be close enough for the west BD?

"Just like the National in 2009 had been held in the western part of the US." Are you freeking kidding me? South Dakota is in the Western part of the US???? Hey Trip have you ever heard of the Rockie Mountains? I have to go over them to get to custer, which is only 2 time zones east of the west coast...OMG!! Are you sure you don't have Christopher Columbus's genes in your pool??!!

I remember when it was planned that Custer would be the first National because "geographically" it was close to the middle of the US (your words). Now your calling it "out west"??? ::)

Next you'll be saying Custer is benefitting all us West Coast people!!! hahahahaha...... man.... I ain't got the words!!!!

Don't ever take that GPS off Ruby Earl!

Look at the map BD. Custer is closer to the West than it is the East. True, Custer is more North Central, but Deal's Gap is going to be more South Central to South Eastern.

Keep in mind that in planning a rally, we're trying to pick locations on two factors.......location and good riding roads/area. If we just chose a central location, we might have picked Joplin, MO. which is geographically in the middle of the US....but who wants to ride the roads around there? Besides, I thought the ride from Long Beach to Custer did you some good. I certainly didn't hear any bitching out of you then.

I certainly don't expect many of the Western US KawaNOW members to make it to the National in 2011...just like I didn't expect KawaNOW members in the East to make it to Custer last year. It's just too far, unless one has the time off from work to make the 2 week long trip.

So, lighten up on some of us that are trying to plan rallys for your enjoyment.

And yes, I keep my GPS on my bike just about everywhere I go.....and that calculates to about 10,000 miles a year getting out and seeing the US on Ruby Earl. In between ironing t-shirts, how many miles do you ride a year?
