Axle nut cotter pin

Started work today on changing rear tire and lub swing arm/drive line and discovered two things, one - there is no cotter pin on my axle nut, two- the 8mm caliper hex bolts were extremely overtightened. Anyone know what size cotter pin is needed to replaced my non existent one?

Id use the largest diameter to fit through the hole, and long enough to bend over on the other side of the nut. Approx 1/8" x 2" should be really close.

I thought 1/8th was a bit narrow, as I drove mine in with a light hammer, but I didn't recall the diameter. I cut the legs on mine short too, and wedge the split with a dead and very sharp screw driver. One time use...
