blows a little smoke

I just got the 08 back together.. did the caddman/chuckster plate and put on the power commander. got it all back together, i can't drive it yet, still waiting on the filter but I started it in the garage.. now it blows puffs of smoke. does that mean the power commander is set wrong? I have not plugged the laptop into it yet, but when I ordered from fuel moto they said they put the caddmann with V & H pipes map into it. don't know what to look for or how to tell if it's "right"

Sounds like it may be a bit rich at the low end, but its best to try it out before you start changing the settings.

What color smoke? The choices are white, blue gray and black.

Is the engine at full warm operational temps?

I would say white.. no, it's not at warm up.. I put chucksters plate on, but my air filter has not arrived yet, so basically I just started in the garage and shut off after less than a minute a few times to make sure I had everything back together.

ok, loaded software on the laptop and checked it out on the bike.. the map they had preloaded was for v&h pipes with a stock exhaust or aftermarket filter. I downloaded the map for the opened intake. will try to start in a little while. baby is sleeping now. hopefully smoke is gone. darn filter wont be here till tuesday, took 2 weeks for that little sucker

Both maps seem to be a bit rich. The one fuelmoto would have put on is from Thunder Manufacturing's site, that is what they told me to use at least. I don't get any smoke with either, but am running a bit rich. The D200-003 map is definitely different settings when you compare maps, but I have not looked at them too closely yet to see what the differences are.

actually fuelmoto put on just the v&h pipes and stock or after market airfilter map. I tried the road house and hypercharger map from powercommander.. I still have the link you gave me to the thunder map, but have not tried that one yet.. guess that's the last choice for a "downloadable" map.

You started and shut off the engine a bunch of times and never ever warmed it up all the way, didn't you. The white smoke is water you made in the mufflers cooking off...

If you did that more than I think you did under the engine oil filler cap will be tan mung. Don't worry about any of it.

well not really macmac. I started it up 4 times or so, and got smoke right from the start.. should I let it warm up? should I wait for the filter?

I would say warm it up good, best way is to go for a ride so its under load. Most of the time it will stop smoking after it reaches operating temperature.

I would just be patient and wait until the filter comes. I would not run my bike to operating temp without a filter.

It all depends on the map that is installed, ideally it shouldn't smoke, but to make higher horsepower at top end sometimes you sacrifice an ideal setup at the bottom end. Engines at different stages of wear also act different, In a few years yours may puff at startup or develop something something that isn't there today. The engine is still good, it just a bit different than some others.

There is definitely a trade off when you do all that you have until the bike warms up. I would wait for the filter and let it warm up good and see what you get for results.
