tour pak questions

I just recieved my tour pak I got from ebay... it's in damn fine shape for being used! 2 questions. it comes with the scootworks rack. however it has 2 sets of mounting holes in the bracket. when the trunk is in the last set of holes, if you measure from the back of the passenger seat (i have mustang) to the actual trunk, not the backpad I have 3.5 inches. if I use the front set of holes it's 2 inches. anyone have this setup that can tell me which are the "stock" holes? I have the bike all apart, doing the caddmann/chuckster mod, power commander, coasters yada yada yada so i don't feel like putting seats and all that back on just yet. Also, how do I run power to this and hide the wire. the power comes out the left front, I see a hole in the right side fender.. any help would be fantastic... thanks

There are no stock holes mine came with none, I had to measure and drill them myself. It is a trial and error kind of thing. I mounted mine about 1" from the front of the scootworks rack after the boss :) said that was comfortable. It was, until we rode, now it is 2" or more back. I think you kind of need to mount it and see where it feels right for the passenger. Really the rack seems to be too far forward for mounting the H-D trunk, but it does work. Not sure how it is for the scootworks trunk, but I think it would be the same.

For the wiring, I ran mine behind the saddlebag then up the inside of the rack. It is not hidden, but the best I could come up with for now. Really hard to hide the wiring.

Be sure you mount the trunk far enough back so you can remove the pillion seat without having to remove the trunk first.

Its better to have it a tad more to the back then to close to the front.

Here's what I did. I had the wife sit on the seat and then put the pack on and just moved it until she was comfortable and then marked it and drilled the holes. If you have a passenger, you want her to be comfortable with the backrest position.

Did the same thing, she loved it until we did 100+ miles...then not so much. You need to make sure it gives about the same recline for the passenger as the stock back rest. I think I went about it trying to keep it as far forward as possible so as much of the trunk is on the rack as possible, while still feeling comfortable, when all I should have worried about is making sure I get enough of the mount holes on the rack to support the trunk.

On mine ('05 with a HD Ultra Classic trunk), if you measure in the center from the front of the rack, to the front of the trunk, It is 1 1/4". I do have mustang seats, and there is plenty of room. Also notice the wiring and antenna lead) that is beside the speaker on the right side of the photo...........

What kind of speaker pods did you end up using on the tour pak. I want to put some on mine, and was not sure which to go with....

Here ya go Cory,
http://www.dragonflycycleconcepts.com/speaker_pods.htm

I also used Polk DB650 6 1/2" speakers. They don't usually advertise them as "marine rated", but they are. Sound is awesome, and haven't had any problems. The newer version of the DBs are black instead of silver.

One day when I have nothing better to do, I think I may try to make a set of speaker pods. I don't think it will be that difficult, but it will take me a pile of time.
