Power commander question

...My bike came with an older PC111. Its the type with the serial port conncection and aside from leaning it out manually, I have not done anything with the it. I would like to try a couple different maps on it. If I hook the laptop up to it and hit "get map", does that leave the PC111 "mapless" at that point til I load another into it, or does the current map stay there? As I mentioned, I have leaned out the PC111 manually. When I load the current map to the laptop, are the manual adjustments I made gonna show up on the laptop?

When you hit 'get map' it simply loads the map from the PCIII so the computer has that copy. It allows you to save that map as a baseline if you are making changes so you can always go back to your 'good' configuration.

Always take the time to back up your current map before making changes.

Power commander question

If you just use the buttons on the PC to change the settings without having a laptop, is there anyway of putting it back to where you started if you dont like it. I have one that came on my bike but Ive never touched the settings. Id rather not start adjusting it unless Iknow I can put it back to were I started if need be.

Not too sure, I have only ever modified it with the laptop so I can make that backup first. I would think the answer is no, because the PCIII has no memory other than the current map AFAIK.

I would like to change the settings as I think its running rich at the low end (you can smell the fuel) but I think I'll wait until I get a laptop to connect to it, just so I can see where I started.

That definitely the best way I think. Like I said use the get map and then save a copy as the baseline that you can go back to, but make sure you save it, getting the map does not save it. I only add that because I have seen a couple guys make a mess by not saving it before making the changes.

The map should also have a description as well, you may not have a map designed for your current configuration. I have several if you need for various configurations and they are all available on the net as well.

Worst case it you grab a map from DynoJet or other sites and start from that if you do forget to save it though.

Power commander question

has anyone had their bike dynoed with a power commander? I've personally never seen it done.. I assume you can set the bike up for different preferences right? One might get better milage, one better performance? How do they know what's optimal or the "best" set up? I hear there is a guy down here who will dyno a bike for 300 and make a custom map. when I got my PC, they said they knew of the caddmann mod, and put that map along with my v&h pipes preloaded on it. so we will see.. hopefully by the end of the week I'll have it all on. Will the "ultimate" baffle have an effect on the settings as well?

With a dyno is the best way to set up the bike. That way when you make changes on the Power Commander you can see the difference in performance on the dyno readout. Without this method its just seat of the pants trial and error.

Dyno is definitely the most accurate, but beware, you usually have to sign a waiver before they put it on the dyno, relieving them of any responsibility for damage. They will run the bike quite hard, and while it should be fine (they do it all the time), they will likely run it much harder than you ever would in my experience. If something goes wrong, that repair is on you, not them.

....I agree strobe. If manual adjustments are made, it would be pretty tough to put it back just the way it was. Good advice on saving the existing map. I will definately do that. Thanks

Power commander question

I had my 06 dynoed at a local race shop who is very reputable and when I got it back it was running way to rich, they said that is where it needed to be but my mpg went from 35-40 down to about 12 mpg. So I just went on to power commanders website entered in the components I had on the bike loaded that map and it has worked like champ ever since. I get about 32-35 mpg but I also run it pretty hard.

I'm running a map from Thunder (done for the Hypercharger) and I think I am running quite rich as well. I need to give the one from Dynojet a try.

STROBE Go to this website and use map #m220-003 I have the vance and hines pipes and the hypercharger and I made the mistake of useing the one for v&h and stock or aftermarket air cleaner but thats only aftermarket aircleaner in the stock airbox not a open intake. So i downloaded the one for roadhouse exhaust and hypercharger as per the tech at powwercommander works great.

I actually have it already. :) I am using the one from Thunders site and have not been happy. Great to know that this one works better though, will save me some of the testing. I often wondered if that one may not be better suited to my application. I'll download that one to the PCIII tonight and give it a try.
