Tach Install ?
Hello and Thanks in advance,, I know its been asked a million times but cannt find the info I want,,
I have a 04 Nomad What is the easiest way to get to the coil to mount the wires? is the coil the left side? Can I raise the Gas tank enought to get to the coils? or do I have to remove it? Or should I just go to NH and have Mc do it??? :) The bike runs good and I dont want to screw anything up!!!!! Thanks Rich

How many wires over all, 3? if so one is ground and can be bolted to any black with yellow tracer wire at the frame, under the tank.
What ever is power must only come on with the key, other wise that tach would be ON all the time, like if you hook it into the acc wires. There are 2 coils and it won't matter which one. But the terminal at the coil you choose sure matters and choose (-) If there is a 4th wire it is likely a light. I am guess because I have no idea what tach you just got, and I don't have a tach on my bike.

Take the coil off, which you can do without taking the tank off.
The coils on an 08 are on each side under the front of the tank. Track the wires from the plugs to the coil. Assume 04's are the same.

Pretty much the 1500 and 1600 the coils are the same far forwards facing rear just under the tank. They look quite like old fashion car coils too, a can with the plug wires.
It may be possible to do the job with out lifting the tank at all, but if you try it be sure you have a white dead pillow case ready to catch what you drop. Choose the coil that is easiest to get at the (-) terminal on If you can see it old man.... My kid said that to me once...
