cheap Performance mods for an 2001 (carb) 1500 no

Looking to increase a little performance out of my 1500,
it has cobra pipes other than that it is pretty much stock.
I would like to gain at least 10 or more hp.
Is there any cheap mods I should know about?

Thanks for your assistance.

You could rejet the carb and install a lower restriction air filter, the carb will be a trial and error thing unless someone who has done it can give you the specs they used. It will probably be difficult to gain that much hp without doing some cam and valve work and some porting to make it breath better.

For free things that might get a little are to change the float level a tiny bit for more, or a higher level. Then fine tune the idle mix. next raise the main metering needle which ever way it raises, Shims? Notches? One step at a time, fopr more fuel and a test ride, then another raise up for another series of test rides, seeking flaws for worse like flat spots, and seeking better. it takes time.

Re-jetting is the next step, but i have no idea what drill numbers to tell you.

A free flow air filter could help, but you need it jetted right. Wrong jetting and too much air will cause a real laggy flat spot right where you want power sometimes.

The good part is there is only 1 carb to mess with.

I have a 2001 carbed Nomad with V&H pipes. I recently removed the reed valves and associated vacuum valve and hoses (Medusa's head as Mac puts it) and installed coasters. Also removed left side air filter assy, air box under tank and crossover tube and installed the right side Coyote Kit for carbed Nomads per Gadget's website for this installation. You will have to rejet the carb with larger main and pilot jets after doing this, in order to get the fuel/air mixture to work best again (Gadget's website gives suggestions on this). My bike seems to really run stronger now and I'm happy with the results.
