I wouldn't consider that an authoritative answer. He got the pricing from a dealer, and I didn't think even the dealers had the pricing on the 09's yet.

Hi All, The cost of the cheaper belt drive should offset the addition of the 6th gear so we only have the addition of the cruise control to add to the price of the 08's. Deduct the reduction in production costs of the cheaper (flimsy) bags and there is no real reason why the 09 Nomads should be more than the 08's in my opinion.

Did you see the write-up in MotorCyclist? They put it at $18K. There were write-ups in that mag and in the Jan/Feb issue of Road Bike. Both write-ups were very favorable.

18K for the Nomad??????...or maybe you're talking about the Voyager?

What did they contribute their "guesstimate" to, actual info from Kaw or just gut instinct?

Actually, you're right...they said the Voyager (don't know what I was thinking :-[). My fault. I was able to read the articles quickly while my wife was in the store.

Okay. Hypothetically speaking, if they don't raise the price of the nomad from 2008 to 2009, would the additional "bling" on the Voyager justify the hypothetical 4-5k additional cost? If so, then maybe both prices are pretty close guesstimates:

Nomad = 12999 for Black and 13199 for the 2 tones
Voyager = 17999

It has always been my guess that the Voyager would come in at around 18k; however I have since thought they may have to lower the price to the 16k range if they plan on selling any -- and even then Kawa may have a difficult time in doing so given some of the reviews I have been reading.

Tough time to be coming out with an expensive luxury item. If all one needed was two wheeled transportation that got good gas mileage, you could get that for about $7,000. Spending double that is a luxury.

Bad timing coming out with an item that people don't really need, then trying to recoup the cost of bringing it to market. Too bad the voyager didn't come out a couple of years ago.

Just saw this on the VROC board, posted by a chap named Diablo from Ohio:

I was on my way to the weekly dinner meeting of local club and my cell phone
rings, (I'm in my truck) it's a fellow from Clinton County Motorsports. I
had stopped by during their grand reopening (never did find you Ron <BG>)
and had asked them to call me when they knew something about the new VN1700
models. So he tells me that they are ordering them now, and should have them
in March.

So here's what he's telling me, the single color Nomads are to list for
$14,300. The two tone Nomads will be $14,700. Voyagers, the non ABS models
list for $16,800, the ABS models will start at $17,300. As I was driving I
didn't have a chance to write anything down so I didn't ask much more than
that, other than he said a fully loaded ABS bike would be $17,900. I assume
that there must be some options other than the ABS?

So it'll be interesting to see if he knows what he's talking about, I assume
that he does or he wouldn't have called. I didn't ask about the Classics,
sorry.

That sounds something like it would be about correct.

Dang, I was hoping it would list around $13,000. Given that the 1700 Nomad lacks ABS I think $14,300 or $14,700 that will be a tough sell. You can get the ABS Connie or FJR for that price. Same for the Voyager. If I'm going to spend $18,000, then I may as well at least consider a Wing.

At those prices I'll probably just stick with my 06.

When I bought my 99 I paid almost full price, there were no other options then. Now I buy a 0 miles, year old model for as cheap as I can.

I paid $10,477 for my year old 0 mile Nomad in 07. I think before I'd ever get a new model Nomad it would have to be old enough that the initial excitement is over and dealers would have year old ones that they need to move.
