Picked up my new Nomad 1700

I'm new to this sight. I stumbled upon it while searching for Nomad 1700 related stuff. I recently sold my '02 Nomad FI and just purchased a '09 Nomad 1700 which I picked up yesterday (red/beige). Rode about 150 miles on it yesterday and I am really enjoying it so far. Since I'm going through the break in I haven't pushed it to hard. But I really like the bike, and especially the seat.

But I do have a couple of questions.

1. I get a pretty loud clunk when shifting gears. Doesn't feel like anything is wrong. Just louder then I expected. Is this normal?

2. I get what sounds like a little gear whine from roughly 25MPH to 45MPH. Is this normal? Part of the bikes break in?

3. Are there any accessories out for this thing yet? My dealer had nothing. Not even anything in a Kawasaki accessory catalog. I was hoping to get a light bar to start.

Anyway, so far I'm really happy with it.

Welcome aboard.

Loud clunk on shifting... heard about that in a review -- specifically mentioned... so must be normal.

Whining sound... hadn't heard about that one yet.

Accessories seem to be something no one is providing yet.

Keep us up-to-speed on what you learn about the 1700 when you can. I am sure quite a few would be interested in hearing about your experience.

Nomad shift clunk, yep, lotsa' bikes have it, (my Vic for example) seemed to become more pronounced when those brands went to a six speed. In fact, when I ride up on a group of Harley riders, I drop the Nomad down to first a few times, makes 'em think I'm on a Road King. But be careful, if they tell ya its a good lookin' bike and then find out its a Nomad they get bent...
Betcha' your "gear whine" is a too tight belt. And if the dealer checks it he might say "can't be, its set to factory specs." Betcha'!
Enjoy the bike, its a keeper.

Do the 1700 Nomads only come in one color? ::)

They come in black too, but as everybody knows they go by so fast its hard to get a pic.
Stand by the side of the road and listen for the gear clunk, thats how I spot 'em.
Or.....look for the "rickety" saddlebags I've seen mentioned so often, mine doesn't have them so I'm guessin' they're only on the black ones.

Welcome to the "Initially I didn't like but now do club" I bought the black 1700 about a month ago. Wasn't overjoyed about the seat but now I like it. On a long ride it offers lots of positions and all are comfortable. I didn't think the saddle bags looked as nice as the previous Nomads. But they work well and I can get into them without getting off the bike. If you read some of the reviews they complain about the handle bars, the seating position, the seat, and other things then when they ride they normally find that they really like it. If you haven't found it yet go to Gadet's Nomad fix it page.

I have the same bike now with 1100km on it. Trans cluncks but get a bit less clunky later. I think its because Im learning how to shift it. Mine wines like a bugger at 45-47km and at low speed at about 25-30. I rode beside a guy form the local dealer and he said it was comming form the rear, I belive with online research that the belt is way too tight. it goes in tomorrow for its first oil change and belt adjust ill post the results. Other than that its a great bike man. Seems were all wearing the same dress to the ball though cause so far everyone Ive chatted with has the red/gold paint lol which is beautifull by the way. Seat is ok, i kinda sit in it than on it, I bought a lambskin and made my own covers and it sure dosnt hurt the ride feel.

I didn't like the seating position on my 2005 Nomad when I first got it. After adding...Risers, new seat, etc ...now it's good.

Picked up bike from shop. Drive belt whine is GONE. They set it below the Kawasaki spec. It was noise from over tension, as well, the rear wheel had to be aligned as it was off a bit. I am very pleased with the result.

Mine is doing the same thing. I'll have to bring it to the dealer on Saturday and see if they can take a quick look at it.

Congratulations on the 1700. The more I see them the more I like em. The cruise and extra gear have to be a big plus on the long hauls.
