sas's knee surgery

I heard this morning that Greg had his knee surgery yesterday and every thing went fine and he is supposed to go home Sunday. Greg Bea and I are keeping you in our prayers and hoping you have a speedy recovery.

sas's knee surgery

Best wishes on a speedy recovery sas. Had mine done in '89 and was back a work in a little over 1 month. Had bucket-handle tear in meniscus and shattered cartilage on the femur. It remained painful for over 6 months after the surgery but I managed. I was 35 yrs old at the time. Makes a huge difference in recovery time.

Thanks everyone for your well wishes and prayers. I'm home and will be off the bike for several weeks, at least. Doc told me not to sit at the computer more than an hour at a time a couple times a day but' I'll be keeping up with everyone. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. God Bless you all and God Bless America!

You bet, Nightmare! The doc doesn't know it but I've incorporated the bike as part of my physical therapy routine on the days when I'm not doing pt at the hospital. I'll get on and off from the right side 20 times and then get on and off from the left side 20 times. After that, I'll sit on the bike and push her 15 feet out into the drive and then push her back under the carport. I'm trying to achieve 20 repetitions of that exercise but I'm only up to 12 so far. Of course while I'm doing these exercises, I'm going "..Budden, budden, buuuuudddddnnnn, buuuuuddddnnn, budden, budden..." LOL!

Carefull not to twist it getting on and off. That could make a huge dent in your riding season.

You're right, Mitch. I keep those kind of things in mind all the time and I *do* try to be very careful.

One of my friends had a knee replacement last year. Took awhile to have no pain but at this time he's planning to do the second one in Feb. He was to the point of hobbling around his yard. He says it's the best thing he ever did and that his knee feels like new.

Hang in there.

PS. You know I just realized that I didn't remember seeing it mentioned you were having a replacement. Oh well, if not good luck with recovery either way.

PPS. And don't push it any harder than the doctor says. (Take it from someone that has had arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery as well).

sas's knee surgery

Hey, LW and flavor! Thanks for asking.

They removed the staples this past Wednesday and that was a relief because it doesn't feel so tight around the outside knee area now. I've managed to get by without a walker and crutches altogether since surgery. I rarely use the walking cane except when I go to therapy, just to show them I do have one. I'm driving to places I need to go here in town and doing pretty good walking around Lowe's and WallyWorld unassisted for 15-20 minutes once or twice a week.

Next Thursday, Dec. 9, three weeks after surgery to the day, there is a Mississippi Patriot Guard escort mission for the 'Wreaths Across America' program and I hope to be able to ride 'Lili' with that group. I'll ride 25 miles north to Brookhaven and hook up with the PG and the 18 wheelers delivering the wreaths. After the ceremony there, we'll run back south for another 50 miles to the Louisiana border and the LA Welcome Center on I-55 where the transfer of the wreaths to the Louisiana PG will take place. Now, that's my *PLAN*. Of course, I'll have to wait and see how I'm that doing that day.....but I bet I make the ride.
