Ear Plugs - advise

I ride with an open face helmet and I use ear plugs - cheap ones at that.

But I am looking for a "better" plug, so to speak.

Would also consider a muff that covers the ear.

I do not use any type of music player and most likely never will.

Looking for recommendations.

And, where did you buy them.

I use 32 decibel foam plugs. Seem to work great. I have noticed that even though they are rated the same, there is a difference between different ones all rated 32. I find the firmer, larger diameter ones give the best reduction. Change to a new pair every couple/three weeks of riding. Easy and inexpensive, and seems to deliver as high a rated reduction and anything else I find.

The best type (in my opinion) would be the ones that are molded to your ear. They cost around $50+, but they are custom fitted and are very comfortable. That said, I don't have a pair. I use some off the shelf ones I bought at a sporting goods store.

I like the cheap foam disposable ones, they do a decent enough job, and work supplies them. Although this summer Ive been using my Ipod a lot more to block out the wind noise. And thats a lot better yet, especially on a longer ride.

Ear plugs, Ipods, Geez, what a bunch of wimps. ;)
I don't need any of that stuff, I worked in a wire making factory for 44 years. I have to read the Television for crying out loud.

That's funny Larry, I was going to say I don't need any unless I ride behind some one with loud pipes.

I have earplugs that I bought at the military clothing store at Redstone Arsenal. If you have access to a military installation you can get some there. They are really good. We used them when we went to the shooting range. The only problem they only come in small, medium and large.

These are what I use:

Not cheap, but extremely comfortable and very effective.

I just use the cheap one or my skull candy ear phone. I've never had any issues with either of these two.

I don't use any when riding, even though I use a "half helmet". I do use them when sleeping though. I work nights {when I'm working} I use foamy ones. I get them from work.

Attached is ear plug testing done by Motorcycle Consumer News. I never would have thought it but it seems the most economical ear plugs do the best job.

Seems the attachement was a little to close to the 1Mb limit. I rescanned and attached again.
