My First Crash

It was the very next morning after I was having the "it's not if you go down but when" discussion with a friend who has been riding since before I was born. I hit a pothole with water in it while merging right onto a main road.
I saw the pothole and made note of it, but I did not expect the reaction my back tire had.
When my back tire came out of the wet hole (only about 2" deep) it broke traction and I oversteered, then overcorrected sliding the other way and coming off the bike before it did a highside flip in the air. It apparently came down on the headlight, windshield, handlebars, etc...without touching the front fender or forks, then crashed down on the right rear, smacking the saddlebag door and bending front & rear crash bars.
I came out unscathed, minus some tore up clothing, likely due to the low speed that I was going.
Just wanted to put up some pics of the result. Hope to be able to repair it rather than total it. Nothing critical seems to be damaged but replacement parts can outstrip the value pretty quickly.

Sorry to hear of your accident. The insurance company will probably total it.

Glad your ok those potholes can be a bitch. Out where I live there are more potholes than blacktop. My wife hit one on her scooter and it through her in the ditch. The scooter was fine she broke 2 ribs.

When I crashed my 2007 Nomad, I added up around $3000 in parts at MY cost (retail), fairing, tank, all crashbars, floorboards, mostly cosmetic stuff. Heck, I rode it home. The insurance company towed it to the dealer in Mesa and they came back with a $9800 estimate and the insurance company then totaled it. The dealer claimed one of the fork stops on the frame was damaged. I think they wanted to sell me a Voyager they had on the floor. I went in a different direction.

Hate to see a nice bike like that go down. Hope getting a replacement won't kill the pocket book. Seems like the small print on an insurance policy has a way of shortchanging the replacement value. Glad you're ok man.

Still have not received an answer from Progressive. The adjuster called me right at rush hour last Thursday while I was picking up my wife at work.
(three guesses as to why we are carpooling now)
I called back and left a message but have not heard back from him yet.
He sounds like a pretty good guy, they just don't have enough adjusters to cover the area.
Thanks for the positive responses everybody. This was my first accident on a motorcycle since I started riding a year and a half ago. I should have had my leathers on. If I was going faster when I went down I'm sure I would have left some skin on the pavement.
