Id say its a 1960 or so 125 Jawa CZ, Its hard to tell since a lot of bikes had the same look back then.
The reason I chose that was that my second bike was a CZ and looked very similar to the one in the pic.
The gear shifter also doubled as the kick starter on that bike, and it had a three speed tranny.

When you said CZ Steve, I picked up on the 3 lines on the tank. My buddy had a CZ 250 motocross bike and I remembered the 3 lines and a CZ emblem in the middle. Man that thing could haul ass.

I am surprised to see that they seem to still be in production. They havn't be seen or heard from very much here the last thirty five years.
They were a very competitive moto cross bike in the early 70's. It seems they are no longer available in canada. There was a dealer in the west end of Toronto back in the 70's. I remember buying parts for my bike and they were dirt cheap.

Nice Thanks!
I do have a problem with the year.
I am very certain that this photo was taken in the early 50's and defiantly before 1954.
I have Google every Jawa I can see but cannot seem to link a year?

Pooker, it's a twin cylinder engine. They started building those in the early 1950's. But I'm wondering if there are any records of the registration, the number is on the front fender. It looks to be fairly new and if you think it was photographed in 1954, I would just go with that. You know it was probably a special occasion that the photo was taken like the ladies first ride on the new bike.
Check this site there is a photo of a 1954 that looks pretty close to what your looking for.
Scroll down the page to see it.

This is a 1954 Jawa Ireland

Google, images, 1954 Jawa CZ - and you get a whole bunch to look at...I like this one

Oh! If you think it is before 1954, go to google images, then type in '19XX Jawa CZ' putting in your best guess year.

Edit: Gerry - that picture wasn't there a minute ago! Magic!

I was close wasn't I!
Those were some of the bikes we grew up with when we were teenagers. We would find a peice of junk, wrecked bike, and buy it real cheap, like $10.00 or less, and fix them enough to be able to ride them.
They were never street legal, but we ran them on the power lines most times. Lots of fun and we learned how to ride.

My first impression was that it was a CZ. I briefly had a CZ 175 in the U.K.

My second bike @ 14yrs old was a CZ. I did not know about 2 stroke oil/gas. Seized it up before I got to ride it.

My first impression was, I didn't know what the hell it was. Never heard of those. Never seen one here where I live.
