Watch out for motorcycles!

Just drove from Michigan to Yellowstone and back (car). Had three motorcycles pull out in front of me. Three different occasions. I had to brake and swerve hard to miss all three. One clearly was inexperienced, guessing a Harley rental, based on his general lack of control. He had plenty of space to pull out but waited too long, then shot out in front of me. One turned left and tried to shoot into a parking lot in front of me rather than stopping and waiting for me to go by. The other one was pulling out of a parking lot onto the road and had to cross my lane.

I saw highway signs all along the way exhorting motorists to watch out for motorcycles, and initially thought it was a campaign to get auto drivers to realize it can be harder to see motorcycles. But now I’m guessing it is more like the watch for deer or the watch for falling rock signs…a warning that motorcycles may pop out anywhere. (Also had to swerve once for elk.)

So a word of warning when riding…watch out for motorcycles!!!!! It would have dinged up my car, but if you hit one on your bike it will be bad!

Hey, it was Sturgis Week last week. Brings out all of the people who ride once a year and trailer to Sturgis.

Saw a bunch of those....CJ must embarrass the heck out of the Harley crowd: he rides his rather than trailers it. Choosing the right tow vehicle must be a major topic on the Harley forum.

If I ever go to Sturgis during the rally, I will get a shirt that says "I rode my bike to trailer week". I really have no desire to go to Sturgis. We have enough a**holes here in AZ, I don't need to ride 1300 miles to find more of them in one place.

I went to Sturgis in 09 during the Custer rally. That was enough for me. I only go to Cyclefest every year because it's only 30 miles away from my house.

I am with you CJ. No desire to go. I don't like to wait in lines. Just the Oyster Rally (Anacortes, WA) is too crowded for me and it is only 20,000.

About 500,000 people attended Sturgis in 2012. 9 deaths. 400 arrests. No thanks. Give me 50-60 people in Estes Park and a nice 3000 mile scenic ride with no crowds.

Dan...scary stuff. I do notice we motorcyclists make our share of mistakes as well.
