Low fuel light
Last time I ran it down to when the light came on. Filled it up and it was just over 4 gallons to the top. Is it typical to have the extra gallon when it first comes on?
On my other bike, when the fuel bar started flashing, it meant find the next station.

Mine is consistently around 4.2 gal if I fill up soon after the light comes on.

This is typical on the 1600 & 1700, but you need to remember 2 things, how much of that last gallon can you actually use, and, the fuel is what cools the fuel pump.

Most I have put in is 5.17 gal. not many gas stations out in the Badlands. Was thinking vultures will get us before AAA shows up out there.

Came on last evening on the way home from work. Waited till this morning to fill up. Pulled up to the pump, remembered my wallet is sitting in the wife's car. Back home and got that, then back up to get gas.
Probably rode about 7 miles after the light came on. 4.3 gallons to fill it up.

I have driven over 20 miles with light on and put 4.5 in the tank.
Know your gas mileage!

My wife may argue I've already reached that point.

See the light around 160 miles and I put in about 4 gal. If the gas light comes on I find fuel pretty quick. Don't need a pissed off girlfriend.

This is one frustrating topic for me. My light comes on around 140-160 depending on how i am driving and where my settings are on the fuel processor. When I fill up its an average of 4.2gal
Found out the hard way that the light comes on with around a gallon left, but you don't have access to most of that gallon. As mentioned the fuel pump is cooled by the gas and thus the pickup is high in the tank. I have run out with less than 10 miles of the light on, which isn't much in the country. I run with a large tank bag on at times and my tank is covered (speed is never an issue on these kinds of back roads). My last bike i could go 25+ miles with the light on! One of my winter projects is a cylinder tank for spare gallon or two I can mount under the trunk. I do a lot of long rides and definitely could use the extra security.

Had the bike for 2 weeks now and finally set the clock. Guess I should get around to changing the odometer to trip instead of total mileage. Then I'll know how far I've gone.
To make matters worse, got bad gas Friday morning. Dropped the mpg slightly and sputters on low speed. Put some seafoam in it, hoping that helps. Times like this I wish I had the smaller tank again. But that's the only time.

Here's My take on it. By the time my fuel light gets on My ass wants off!
and yes mine still has a gallon in it when light comes on like vulcanE said fuel is what lubes and cools pump so fill er up and don't try and go another 25-30 miles PUMP IS 600.00

On an 81 Honda I had when it started sputtering I could reach down and rotate a valve on the fuel line coming out the bottom of the fuel tank. That put me into the reserve fuel in the tank. Just don't forget to switch it back when fueling up. Which I did once. Ran out of fuel right in front of a gas station. Just pushed it in. I like this setup better. I know I have meby 40 miles in my tank and no valves to remember. Nothing to do but fuel up. So I figure when the display starts flashing, I'm into my reserve. I just wish this tank held 7 gallons instead of the 5.3 gallons.
