We have many nice roads here in western Washington and on local rides the twisties are what my riding buddies and I look for. Most of the mileage I put on my bikes has been touring the US and Canada for the past 15 years and I see a pretty good combination of highways and back country roads. Northern Maryland has some wonderful riding but when I get into Pennsylvania I seem to find all of the "tire eater" roads.
I think trying to find the proper balance between good handling and tire longevity is the real trick. I've heard that some tire manufactures are starting to build multi-compound tires with harder centers for touring and softer compounds on the sides for cornering. Now that our daughter is moving from Florida to Colorado Springs, I plan to explore Colorado. I've ridden through it but never spent time to enjoy it's magnificent byways.
