Severe clutch grab after spring replacement.

My bike is dangerous. :-[
There is no way it can be ridden like this.

I changed my clutch spring to the Barnett spring a week ago and it hasn't stopped raining long enough to test it.

I took it out tonight and it about threw me off the back. My neck is still hurting. There is absolutely NO feathering of this new clutch. It goes straight from full on to full off.

Has anyone else had this problem?

No Faxxxy. I just changed to the MT-25 last week and it is performing great. No chance that your 3 washers may have fallen when you slid the assembly in? You torqued the nut to 107 ft lbs? Did you have any problem getting the small cover snap ring back into the groove? If you feel that this is all good, adjust your clutch lever all the way out.

Severe clutch grab after spring replacement.

You better take it apart and see whats up in there. It does sound like the washers may have slipped or been installed incorrectly.
When I installed my washers the first time I tried the clutch first without the motor running when I finished the job. I heard a small tink noise once and when I checked I found that I had cracked one of the washers. I replaced it with another that I made myself and its been good ever since.

Severe clutch grab after spring replacement.

Sounds like something wasn't installed correctly. The biggest difference with the mt25 spring is a slightly stronger lever pull. Otherwise it should work like any other clutch.

Severe clutch grab after spring replacement.

Exactly Scott.....my lever is stiffer and the clutch seems a little more positive than before. Other than that, no difference.

Severe clutch grab after spring replacement.

Are you absolutely sure that you did not put the new spring in backwards?

Usually when the limiter springs slip out of position the clutch slips like crazy, but sometimes...

Did you get the limiter springs back in like this...)()

Severe clutch grab after spring replacement.

Got'er fixed..
Not real sure what it was, but I took everything apart and re-assembled and now it seems to work fine.

I do have another problem though.. :-[

I'm starting a new thread about it. :'(

Severe clutch grab after spring replacement.

BTW.. The clutch nut was under torqued.
I dont know by how much, but before I torqued it, it had two of the nuts threads exposed, after I torqued it, there were three of the shafts threads exposed. So to get to the proper torque, it was roughly 2 or 3 full turns too loose.

So to recap.
If "the nut" is too loose, the clutch will be SUPER grabby.

Hi, I am trying to remove the DAMPER CAM nut from my 2002 Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad 1500, the nut does not want to break loose. Anyone ever tore the engine down this far before? If so is the nut a left hand thread or right hand thread? How did you remove it?

Thanks
Vulcan Nomad

I'm not sure if its RH or LH thread but take a look at it on our online shop manual, that should get you back in business.
