side hinge trunk

Anyone know of a trunk made so that it will fit on the stock luggage rack? Seems like someone would make an aftermarket trunk that had side hinges so we nomad riders wouldn't have to buy a separate luggage rack/mount to use them.

Take a look at the Leatherlyke trunk. Small enough to fit on a standard luggage rack and still big enough to hold quite a bit of stuff. Here is one on my 1500 Classic.

The pads/backrests are removable and the trunk opens to the left side.

The stock luggage rack is not designed to support the weight of a trunk.

Thanks Duffy. Cactus, I'm not removing the sissy bar so my passenger won't be leaning on it. I want to store glasses, gloves etc in it, not bowling balls ��

Since you just want to carry small items, consider just a bag that mounts on the luggage rack. I think you're going to have a problem finding a hard trunk that will work with your configuration.

Looks like I may be staying with the bag unless I go full tour pack addition. The angle on the stock sissy bar and luggage rack is problematic.

I pulled the sissy bar (the brackets that hold it stay in place) and then just made a plate with some 1/2 solid steel pieces to go into the backrest brackets. This could just bolt/clamp to the OEM luggage rack (I currently don't use the rack).

If you want to keep the sissy bar I think the trunk would have to be quite a ways back and as you point out the angle might not be "right".

It may be better to just use a roll bag on your luggage rack (as mentioned above). Not lockable but if you don't store expensive stuff in it it should be ok.

A Wompas rack and a HD tour pack work great.
