hooked up slpine amp and radio reception....
Radio reception went to crap after hooking up alpine ktp445 amp.... amp is in fairing underneath kenwood deck.... probably 3 inches of space between them...

The Alpine KTP-445 is a Class D amplifier, and Class D amps are known to cause radio interference. You can find lots of info about the problem on Google....

I have the same amp setup as you with a HD oem whip antenna and my reception is great no problems at all.
What antenna are you using? I would guess that is your problem.
