My Snowblower Died Today

I was blowing out the driveway earlier today when my machine quit on me. After checking it out I noticed that the choke butterfly was just laying in the carb throat. I suspected that the screw had come loose that holds the butterfly onto the shaft.
I took the motor apart and found part of the screw jammed into the cylinder head. After removing the piston you could see a good dent and gouge in it where another peice had got sucked in.
Either way the motor is dead. Probably not worth fixing. I'll probably make due with the shovel the rest of the winter now, and pick up another machine for next winter.

Hate hearing that. I remember having to use a shovel when I lived in Colorado Springs, CO. Not a lot of fun. But a lot cheaper than purchasing a snow blower.

Rethink that strategy Ring. It is way too early in the winter to be without a snowblower.

I agree with Bud. You out of your mind. Shovel the rest of the winter?
People have heart attacks doing that stuff.
The first year I retired my plow truck was nickel and dimein' me to death. Sooooooo, I figured seeing as I was retired I would have lots of time to snow blow. Sold the plow truck. Big mistake. One winter of that and I bought a newer truck the next spring.
I bet you have a new to you snow blower before the winter is out.

I may have to rethink that idea, its just that I got other things that need buying as well. If I can wait until summer you can usually find a good used one at a yard sale for a really good price. My neighbour picked up a 10hp a couple years ago for $500.00 that looked like brand new. The paint wasn't even worn off the auger. For any big snowfalls I can borrow my neighbours machine if I have to. Theres no shortage of machines around here.

I had that same thing happen to a tractor I have. Never found the screw, but it bent an exhaust valve on the way out.
