One item that probably speeded things up is that the Judge did not allow the false positive Meth test in this trial.

He'll get concurrent sentences, I'm sure. With good time credit and a few time cuts (learn to mow the grass and you get 6 months...seriously), he'll do well less than 1/2 the time. Maybe even 1/4 of his sentence. And that's assuming the judge gives him the maximum time on each count. He was a truck driver trying to make a living for his family. They were just bikers out joy riding. Obviously, I don't think that way but the judge might. The prosecutors can recommend anything they want. It's ultimately up to the judge to decide what he gets although there's a minimum limit. I'm guessing the minimum is around 4 or 5 years (each) for the manslaughter charges and 2-3 each for the others. It's a sad world we live in.

I'm surprised he was found guilty. I agree with Monk. If that happened in
Vt. He would be out in 4-5 years.

Unless he gets to be the person they want to make an example of. That happens from time to time. 4-5 years seems light. Madoff didn't kill anyone and he wouldn't get out if he live another life.

I hope they make an example of him and you're right...sometimes it happens. That's what happened to Bernie Madoff. Plus, I'll bet he had some of the judges money in that mess. Maybe this judge is a biker?

The difference with Madoff is that the "victims" were somewhat complicit with their own greed. No one gets 17 or 18% return year after year and they were motivated by their greed. Of course he was running a ponzi scheme and got caught...So he is guilty. I just find the sentence ridiculous. Then we have Corzine with MF global who lost billions and there won't be any charges. It all depends on who you know...

Today is the sentencing hearing for the truck driver responsible for this tragedy. I'll post an update after they announce the sentence. He could get 21 years for each death (aggravated manslaughter). I'll let you know when I find out.

The driver was sentenced to a total of 26 years in prison for the deaths of 4 motorcyclists and injuring 5 others.
