Picking up a dropped Nomad

I have not drop my Nomad yet, but I am sure Murphy will catch up to me at some point.
Anyway, with two recent posts on dropping the Nomad I thought it would be good to hear from those with experience the best way to pick up a Nomad.
Did you put your back side against the bike and walk it back upright using your leg muscles, or was there a better way that worked for you?

Can't muscle them up, they weigh too much. When I dropped mine, I used the butt against the side, and pushed up with my legs, and using the handle bar, like in the video. The crash bars do help in most cases so you are not picking it up from flat off the ground.

One thing that helps is to make sure its in gear, so as you get it up it does not try to roll, and make damn sure the kick stand is down, or it will go over the other way.

This is the way that I was taught to lift the bike. We have biker cops on post that teach advanced slow maneuvers once a quarter. Hence, I got to practice the technique on a police HD. It really helped when I dropped the Nomad.

Used the butt against the seat grabbing the rear crashbar and handlebar. Very little effort needed. My shoulder and lower back problems wouldn't let me muscle it up.

Just like in the video; bike in gear, handlebars to lock, grab the crash bar and it is amazingly simple to do as long as you don't try lifting so much as pushing it up. Dirt makes it a little more difficult as your feet don't have much traction so that one took a couple of tries for me.

I had a harder time trying to muscle up my old KZ650 than I do with the Nomad

Best way is to get help, but if now help is available put your butt to it like CajunRider says.

The last time I dropped mine,I was so mad that I made sure the side stand was down walked around and muscled it up.

Adrenaline can be a good thing.

When I dropped mine last week with the wife on board, I used this butt seat leg lift. Is a piece of pie/cake whatever but it does work.

I usually do it like this, but I know the butt to seat backwards lift is best.



Being 6'2" tall, I have a hard time getting low enough to the seat, and still being able to push with enough force. The way that I do it in the video clip is to get the bars to full lock so when you lift the near bar, you are pretty much lifting it locked, straight up.

Muscling it up so it lands on the kickstand probably works. Doing when it's down on the left side is a problem of a different color. The butt-walk will let you get it up *and* reach the kickstand with one foot to lever it down after you get it up a ways. You can then let the bike down onto the kickstand. I know. I had to do this two days after I bought the bike when I didn't get the kickstand all the way down (live and learn!).

Haven't dropped mine since last June. Dropped it, more like laid it down, 4 times my first 3 months (3 because of the loose gravel in my driveway and once forgetting to put the kickstand down. But I do have 15,000 miles on her in less than 14 months, so I didn't get her just to look at her and I've been on her a lot. All 4 times I just muscled it up. Pretty strong when I'm pissed and it only drops to about a 45 degree angle anyway. So just pickin' it up ain't that hard. And, by the way, that technique of using your butt to lift it don't work in loose gravel. Jamie

Adrenaline due to embarrassment can definitely help you muscle it up. And I agree with Dan: Taller guys, harder to do the "butt-push-up"
