Electronic Cruise Control (no vacuum)
This is for all you tech types.
These say they are for 4 cyl engines, but since we have 4 spark plugs would it work? It's electronic and doesn't need vacuum. http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/p....prod/prd48.h tm

Even though we have four spark plugs, our bikes only fire twice.
Both cylinders fire at the same time, when they are near top dead centre. The opposite cylinder is at bottom dead centre and thus wastes the spark. I'll Take a look at that unit later on and see if it could work.

Bob, compatibility should have nothing to do with # of cylinders or # of spark plugs. Sounds like the system relies on taping into the signal to a electronic speedometer which we have. It get's a reference # of pps (pulses per second) which is the equivalent of a mph number and then mechanically modulates the throttle position to maintain that # of pps coming to the speedo. From that perspective (if our speedo's system input is trigger and if ours operates in the 2,000 to 40,000 pps range) it should work.
However is it durable enough for the physical environment it would be in on a motorcycle? You know, rain, heat and vibration. Is the servo strong enough to over come the throttle springs used on motorcycles? And is there a mechanical or electronic disengage harness that would work with our brake and clutch levers or does it work just with the brake light circuit? Many questions still to ask I think?

Electronic Cruise Control (no vacuum)
Bob NEVER MIND,,,,,I LIED!!!
In the sales material it says it works with electric speedos,,,,but,,, in the instalatioon instructions it takes it's input from the ignition systems central trigger (ex; the distributor on a GM HEI system) so it is questionable if it would work with our system. I think the pps rate on our bikes would be way below their range. I am not guarenteeing that this is correct but,,,,,, and that is a big but,,,,,, Conceptually the number of inition pulses per second on our bikes would range from (assuming 4 pulse per engine revolution from the ignition then waste then ingition then waste patern) Idle of 1200 RPM or 20 RPS = about 80 pps to about Max of 4800 RPM or 80 RPS = about 320 pps

Are we talking about the Rostra cruise system? It's my understanding that you can choose your signal source with the Rostra system. You can also buy a pulse generator kit that mounts on the wheel to create a signal for non electronic engines. I'm just starting my research. Does anybody have more info about these options?

In their info it references Rostra several times.

Electronic Cruise Control (no vacuum)
I just took a look and it seems the Rosta and the Audiovox units are the same. They come in different configurations as to which control stalk or pad you require. For bikes you need the manual transmission with control pad. I don't see why it won't work since it claims to work from 2000 to 40,000 ppm. I think I have my vacum cruise set at 4-5,000 ppm.
They are a lot costlier than they used to be, even the CCS-100 vacum units are $175.00 and higher. Considering a lot of us paid $14.00 a couple seasons ago for the same units.
