air pressure

are any of you running what the service manual says for air pressure in your front tires? my service manual say to run the front at 32 psi cold. my bike is a 07. my new front tire has 42 max air pressure stamped into it. just curious as to what everyone is running.
btw, i was running my stock stoner at 40 psi. also wondering if that is one of the reasons that there is such a variance in what kinda mileage others are getting from their stock tires.
this my have been talked about before, but i dont remember seeing it.

I was looking way back in the garage forum last night and saw that discussion. Here it is:

http://www.vulcanbagger.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=8167

It appears that alot of people are running significantly higher front tire pressure than is recommended by MOM.

It appears that most of us here find that 38-42 seems to be the most preferred tire pressure, I keep mine at 42 myself. That seems to be the recomended range for a lot of tires, if you check the sidewall info. A lot of the Harley guys I know run 48 psi in there tires.

I replaced the OEM brick with a Dunlop D 251F radial in the stock size up ft, and run it at 40 psi. Seems about right. Rolls nice.

I replaced the rear with a Dunlop Sport Sp 5000 sym (so they say) in 195.60 R 16, and like that one alot at 36 psi.

All psi given are cold.

I run close, within a psi or two of the max value stamped on the tire, Dunlaps and Mets. You get a little more traction and heat if you run them lower. Might consider the max pressure for highway cruising with full load and lower pressure for course work (twisty turning), as a MSF instructor once suggested to my class.

I've always run 40 front and 42 rear, but when I got a Cobra front, just for the hell of it, called Avon about recommended air pressure. Guy I talked to was adamant about not going over 38lbs. Cliff called Avon as well on got a similar answer.
So, I've stayed around 38 and have to admit, with 10K miles on the front, still couple thousand left and no cupping.

thanks ! thats what i have always had it at is that 40 to 41 range. so i guess i was a lil surprised to see how low the manual recommends for pressure. my new front has 42 stamped on it for max. im running it at 40.

When I picked my Nomad up from the the dealer the service manager was adamant that the tire pressures be kept at 41 PSI. The tires are good so far.

I keep 40 in the front and 42 in the rear. I'm beginning to get high speed wobble
(over 75 mph). My guess is it's the front tire. At slower speeds, if the road dips causing the bike to bounce, I get a slight side to side wobble and then it stops. Over 75 mph the front end starts going side to side and will not stop until I slow down. No handlebar movement, just side to side wobble. I have 16,000 miles on the front stock Bridgestone. I've been having the new Cobra for a couple of weeks, just haven't mounted it yet.

That new Cobra will match up well with CT!!
