First For Me At Funeral Yesterday

Went to Memphis yesterday for my aunt's funeral. First of all had to detour around parts of Memphis related to the Mississippi flooding. Good thing had the GPS or I would have been lost.

The funeral was at St Peter's Catholic Church in downtown Memphis. The church is right next to the criminal justice center. Since I'm sure property is a commodity in downtown Memphis, the church does not have a parking lot. There are paid parking lots all around the church and justice center. I circled the closer lots several times giving up and going to another pay lot a few blocks away. The parking lots were full of attorney's with their briefcases and boxes of papers....and the folks going to court.

Hey...one thing about it...the closer lots were $5; the lot I found a spot in was just $2.

I guess when they have services on Sunday the parishioners can park at the lots right across from the church without any problems as there are no courts going on....probably don't even have to pay.

Just saying....first time I've ever had to pay to park for a funeral. :-/

Welcome to Memphis Nancy, just one of the many reasons I try not to go there.

Welcome to the big city. Go to a city like San Francisco and the hotels charge you to park in their lots.

Very few times in my life have I paid to park. Of course there are times that can't be avoided. My little town doesn't have that problem as there are more parking lots than town. All free.

I noticed very few people pulling over and stopping for the procession to the cemetary. Here in Dyersburg everybody pulls over and waits till you pass.

I did enjoy watching the 2 dudes escorting stopping traffic at intersections on the motorcycles ....one white harley and one white goldwing.

In Niagara everyone pulls over to let the procession by, in the larger areas not so much.
My daughter spent a night in a Toronto Motel on the weekend, it was $30.00 to park overnight in their lot. The girls went to a club and it was another $30.00 just to get in. Thats why I hate going there for anything.

It's anywhere from $10-$25 to park for a baseball game, basketball game, or event in downtown Phoenix. The closer to the venue, the more they charge. $10 is parking in a dirt lot next to an abandoned warehouse several blocks away and $25 is a covered parking structure within a block of either arena. I park for free at a Park N Ride lot and ride the light rail to Chase Field or US Airways Center. They are right next to each other and the train stops right outside. The trains are clean, safe and efficient.

Most people can't afford to at those prices.

Chicago hotel parking is at least $50 minimum these days.

There are quite a few condos in downtown Chicago that do not have parking spaces for them... so these people pay several hundred to nearly a $1,000 a month to park in lots somewhere near their condo.

Some parking spaces in a building-lot in Chicago are sold as individual parcels of land. In other words, you have a title to the parking-space just like your house.

A titled parking space can cost anywhere from $50,000 to $100,000 depending on its location. They remain the only appreciating real-estate within the city. ;)

Maybe Chicago, New York, Memphis and other big cities need this.
