Gel Pad

I know a lot of riders buy a new seat as soon as they get there bikes. I’ve been looking at the Gel Pads to add to the stock seat. I don’t see any post about gel pads. Can I get some feedback on this. Thanks!!

When I first got my Victory I used a gel pad and it helped a little but not that much; on long trips I still hurt like hell!!.
I then upgraded to a Russel Day Long seat and I ride all day in comfort.

I've had Mustang on my last 2 bikes & really liked them. My 1600 Nomad came with a Mustang on it & I think it had a gel pad in it. Both were good for 12 or so hour runs. The stock seat on my 1700 Nomad is good for now, but I may look in to a gel pad for it latter.

I have inserted a gel pad into two seats..........one a Vulcan 1500 Classic and now the current bike which is a Kawasaki Versys. They work well for me but then every butt isn't the same. For the cost of an aftermarket seat it's well worth a try.

I think you’re right Duffy, I may try a gel pad first.

That's what I've heard, and it's kept me from getting one on any of my bikes.

If it is used on top of the seat, yes, it will heat up and roast some "things". I insert mine into the seat foam, then cover with a layer of low density foam and then replace the cover. Those layers keep the gel from heating up in direct sunlight. Works good.

I've used the ones from Air Rider on my Goldwing, 1600 Nomad and 1700 Voyager and been pleased with them.

I had actually purchased a replacement seat for the Goldwing and while it was better than stock, it still left a lot to be desired so I added the gel pad and got the results I was looking for. I foolishly let it go with the bike when I thought I was through riding. Couple of years later, I got the Nomad and while the OEM seat was better than the Goldwing's, it still needed a little something else. Air Rider to the rescue. After 3 years, sold the Nomad and replaced it with the Voyager but this time was smart enough to keep the gel pad. It provides comfort on long rides and when positioned properly, it eliminates heat transfer from the top of the engine to the bottoms of my thighs.

I haven't noticed the gel pad getting excessively hot when I ride on it but don't leave it out in the sun while you are stopped or you'll be singing Christmas carols (Chestnuts roasting ...). It takes a while for that deep heat to dissipate, even when you store it in a trunk or saddlebag.

I took My stock seat to a local Upholsterer, I asked to have the back of the Drivers seat shaved off so it was more straight up and down. Stock kept pushing me forward. It helped a lot. 60 bucks and all stock looking but more comfortable. They can install pads if you want, then put the cover back on.

The stock vaquero seat made me have some back issue, even on short rides. Found that a backrest would stop all issues, and it did.
Then I started riding some longer rides and found that my arse and were my legs are connected, I would get some serious pains. Then I found out about a seat pad that pretty much eliminated that. Its called an AIRHAWK.
Both items were expensive. but still cheaper than a new seat.
