The Four Vulcaneers.

One of the best things about riding is the wonderful people we meet along the way. I can't say that enough.

Gatherings like that one present a great opportunity to do so. I look back at the pics a good friend from Texas who died earlier this year. I met John at a Rocket "Salvo" years ago and we became fast friends. We sold our Rockets but continued to visit each other about once a a year.

Yes, treasure the moments, the comradeship and the photos of good friends and good times.

Cool idea Amin, Random shots from rallies past is a great way to get over the Parked Mororcycle Syndrome winter blues.

Well this is a sad one for me. Seated are Jeff, John and myself at a lodge camp near Leaky, TX along the Frio River several years ago. Jeff was a retried Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer and John the head of a seven county probation department in Texas. John was Cherokee and Cheyenne Indian and very proud of that heritage. He was with Customs and Border Patrol as well as DEA earlier in his career. He was shot three times in a gun battle with some of the Mexican cartel guys many years ago which made him rethink that career field as he used to joke.

Jeff did 26 years in the Navy, learned to play golf when he retired and eventually got his teaching professional certificate. He worked for singer Willy Nelson at the singer's golf course next to his ranch near Pedernales, TX. Jeff introduced me to many in Nelson's family, to include his daughter Paula who was performing at a memorial concert for Willie's long time road show manager, Poodie Locke.

The Brothers Three

Both Jeff and John died in the spring from cancer. I love this picture and miss by friends. We did thousands of miles on two wheels together.

What a great pic BudMan. Where is Mount Magazine? It is a stunningly beautiful area. I've got to get out there.

It is pics like this that remind me that I've got places to go and things to see before I kick the bucket; and also that there are many wonderful folks to meet along the way.

Mount Magazine is the highest point in the state.
It is in west central Arkansas located about 15 miles south of Paris on Hwy 309.
There is a nice lodge up there and it's a good place to stop for lunch.
309 is a good road, not all that long but a fun ride, especially the part from Magazine south to Havana.
It also happens to be about 55 due east of my house.
When we can't think of any place else to go and don't have a lot of time we ride up there.
If you ever make it down this way let me know. Lunch at the lodge is on me.
