Hey Ya'll!

Ya'll may not remember me, but I'm Skeet in Hermitage, Tn. Alias, Karen. I'm finally going to retire at the end of the year. Now, I bought a Street Glide last year. Impulse buy! It was an 07 Black Pearle. Nice bike, but something about it bothered me. Still don't know why. I even lowered the front, Hog Tunes upgrade speakers, bought bag guards, but the extra auxillary lights on the front, spent some money. But did not ride it. My daughter loved it. Plus, since I made up my mind to retire, I didn't need that hefty payment, I really need a newer mid size suv. So, here I am still looking for a Nomad. I found on in Chattanooga. Its an 02 with 33,000 miles. Has a faring, with radio, gauges, a Voyager trunk, (don't need that). The owner is wanting to sell badly and has lowered the price in an email to me. Is the mileage too high? I don't know anything about this bike. Oh has Vance and Hines pipes. Is there some things I should be weary of?

Thanks for any info.
Karen

Hey Ya'll!

No the mileage isn't too high. Cactusjack a member here has an '07 with 49,000 miles. I would definitely think about buying if you think the price is right.

Hey Ya'll!

The miles don't worry me either, not for an '02 I guess you've been shopping around enough to know if the price is reasonable. I believe the '02s are fuel injected and have the steel oil gear. So thats two other good points for it. Just give it a test ride and just make sure it shifts good. Most people take very good care of their bikes

Hey Ya'll!

I have a 2007 Nomad with 54,000 miles on it. Runs like a champ.
I wouldn't worry about the mileage on the 02 if the price is right.
There are always Nomads on Ebay with real low mileage but again, the price has to be what YOU consider fair.

Hey Ya'll!

as KawHead says, as long as it has the steel gear (vs plastic) ...Anyone>> when did they go to the stell gear>>??

Anyhow, disn't see a price in your post so it will be up to you as to whether or not its a good deal...which is really what matters...that you feel you got a good deal...

Fairing, sounds, gauges, voyager trunk (take a pic and sell it here if you decide you don't want it), V&H pipes...got aftermarket goodies;) sounds ok to me:)

Hey Ya'll!

2000 and up have the steel oil gear.

How does the trans shift? If it has any problem at all, then walk away. Trans problems are expensive. Please don't ask how I know.

Is the owner a club member? Someone may know who it is and have some info on the bike.

I know a few Vulcan guys in the area and may be able to get you some assistance.

Hey Ya'll!

Thanks for the info. I'm emailing him today to see if its still available and If I can see it next Saturday. It has a Mustang seat on it. Will that set me lower? Or more back?

Hey Ya'll!

Mustang seats generally set you a touch lower but more forward.

Hey Ya'll!

An 02 is 9 years old and although 30,000 miles is not high mileage for a Nomad you are looking at a 9 year old bike. Many Nomads older than that with over 100,000 miles on them are still running strong....but... age degrades things like cooling and hydraulic (brakes and clutch)systems. There are some incredible buys out there on nearly new Nomads. I see 07's and 08's with lease than 10,000 miles and many aftermarket goodies going for $6,000 to $7,500 My advice would be to look for newer than 9 years old if you don't personally know the bike or are not inclined to do your own maint.

Take a look in the For Sale section on this site. I think there are a couple of nearly new "Full Dress" Nomads for sale in it right now. I think Crabbypaddy and a fellow from the east coast have bikes you should check out!

Hey Ya'll!

LOL, I don't know if I can ride it.....My legs are getting so short in my old age. The owner tried to sell on ebay today and the highest was $4300.00 not his reserve. I'll give him a call to see if he will wait for me to see it on Saturday. Oh, the temp is going to drop here in Nashville on Thursday going from 80 to low 60's....I'm ready for some cooler weather after this summer that was way too hot.

Hey Ya'll!

My '02 has 36,000 miles on it and I'm not having any problems with it. Good luck finding one you like.

Hey Ya'll!

Be careful Karen, he may be asking to much for the bike. These people on the board are more than willing to help shop for a deal on a Nomad. Truss me, I done been through it one time and it took 'bout thirty days and I was riding again.

Hey Ya'll!

I have an '01 and my hoses and like are all very good. I would not be afraid to buy a well cared for Nomad.

BTW a stock '02 Nomad has a

trade in value of $3910.00 and retail value of $5675.00.

The bike in good shape with add-ons, is worth what you feel is fair.
