FI Light

Over the weekend I removed my tank to drain it, yesterday I reinstalled it, put fresh gas in it, started it up, ran rough and FI light stays on, any ideas. I am sure I got a wire or a tube pinched and will check that this evening. Was wandering what else the FI light does. Oh yes it a 2001 1500. Thanks

Id remove the tank and just look around under there to make sure the electrical plugs are well connected and everything else is ok. Check the hoses and lines for kinks as well.
Ive had my tank off a few times and have never had anything like that happen.

Thanks Ring, I will do that. I have had mine off several times and this is the first for me, I guess there is that one time.

For grins pull the ground cable off the battery for a few minutes too, in case there was a glitch.

While doing that locate the yellow wire with a open nuthing in the end.. Don't go sticking any thing in that either, unless you want to stuff a rubber cap in it. It is for the ECU code reader.

I would need to read up on that, and then I don't know if I could type it all.

Ok, I pulled the ground off the battery and left it off while I looked for the yellow wire that goes to nothing (I did not find it), then I hooked the ground wire back up, started the bike and the FI light still stays on, I let in run for a little bit then shut it off. I have the tank hoovering over the bike as far as the return hose will let me held by rope from the rafter, I did that so I could check for any bent lines. I will still go try and find the yellow wire. Thanks.

Well I could not find that dadburned yellow wire, I looked behind both side covers, pulled battery totaly out and pulled ECU out (did not disconnect it) and still no yellow wire, I looked in a 1600 manuel and seen where it was on there, so I figured it would be close on my 1500.

Vidor, on my Nomad that light also indicates the bike is overheating. I know that isn't your problem but you ask what else it is for. You obviously have a wire screwed up or a hose has a kink or something.

Is it maybe possible that some trash got picked up when you lifted the tank? Just a thought.

Both 1500's and 1600's have that yellow wire. What year bike is this?

So far as I can recall the yellow wire on the 1500 is in on the left side of the battery as seated... it is bright cannary yellow too.

Ok 2001.... I wonder if this is a late 2000, because i have the book for the year 2000, and is shows no yellow wire.

At the ECU which needs to be lifted up and out it shows 'cap' "C" a lot of good that does huh?

I can't ID the color of the wire either. How ever it is the only wire in cap C. Terminals 33, 34, 35, 36, 38,, 39, and 40 are empty.

Only T 37 is used. Do you have this?

I had a 01 1500 too once, and I know for sure it had that yellow wire.

I have just 2 books the 2000 year and the 06 year.

Just experienced a similiar problem with my '01 Nomad. I had been detailing the bike and cleaning up some wayward wiring from the previous owner when the FI light went on and the bike ran rough and actually at 1/2 power. Drove me nuts trying to find it. Finally had the shop check it out and one wire came loose from the power commander. Picking it up tomorrow so will find out which wire was the problem and get back to you.

Hate to say this, but yank the battery then yank the ECU, then the caps with wires, and see, looking real hard is you can find any numbers on these caps anywhere...

If you find 37 vacant, then there just has to be a yellow wire.

The 2001 book wasn't out when my 01 bikes was first purchased.

Now if you can find that wire i can maybe articutlate some tests.... train up on morse code though --- ... ---

If I start to research the wrong bike, wrong everything, I will create one hell of a mess for you and confuse the issues.

Other wise i would be typing a list of things to check right now.

Mac,
This morning I was in awe at my bike, I looked everywhere for problems. So I decided a little while ago I was going to put it all back together and take her to the Kawa shop Monday morning, as I was putting it together I was tywraping wires back and there it was a broke wire on the throttle position switch. I soldered it back along with heat shrink and she runs GREAT and no FI light. This might be part of the problem I was having last year. And on a note there is no yellow wire coming off my ECU that was what made me cut tywraps looking for it.
Thank you for all the help. I think my wife is happy now since I am not ticked off at the bike.
