new tires

I put my bike in the shop 2 days ago to have new tires put on and all of the fluids changed. I got a call from the shop today asking me if I planned on riding over the weekend. I told them yes. He said that the fluids would be done today but because the rear tire is a nightmare to change I'll have to drop the bike off again next week.

I thought he was giving me a line of crap and decided to look up the procedure for removal of the rear wheel on the 2010 Nomad in the service manual. The bags, bag stays, right muffler and rear fender have to come off to change the tire. Who builds a bike that you have to disassemble the entire rear of the bike for normal wear and tear items. I guess Kawasaki does.

I'll get my ride in Sunday and then be without the bike again next week. I may start looking at other bikes once this is done.

B.S.
That is what the manual says but most of that is not necessary.
You do need to remove both saddlebags, 3 bolts each, 5 minutes tops.
Then unbolt the rear shocks so the swingarm and wheel drops down enough to pull the axle out under the bag supports, roll the wheel out under the fender. Don't even need to loosen the belt adjusters as the belt will become slack enough just by lowering the swingarm.

I should add: also remove the left muffler, 2 bolts and loosen a clamp.

This is a single mechanic shop. It's only a couple of blocks from my house. I can drop the bike off and walk home. I told him that he could have the bike for the week next week if he needs it.

The mechanic or shop just wants to charge you the max. all you have to do is raise the rear end high enough and the rear wheel will come out without having to do what the "book" says. I know, I have done enough rear wheel changeouts on the vulcans, including my voyage, 30 minutes to drop the rear wheel out, max.
