Seat Bolt

Anybody know the correct size and pitch or whatever you call it for the seat bolt on the 1600 Nomad. I want to buy a chromed easy off bolt to make removing seat easier. Dennis Kirk and J&P Cycle both carry them any other soucres known?? Thx.

Are you running a stock seat? I know with my Mustang the bolt is very close to the seat and don't think one of those thumb bolts would work. I replaced mine with a stainless allen head and carry a T handle 5mm in the saddle bag. I believe the actual size of the bolt is 8mm. This setup seems to work for me.

bolts are very confusing, you have the size a wrench might fit the head, size of threads, pitch, alot of number to know. yes I have stock seat, stock bolt, just wanting a chromed easy off bolt.

Take the bolt off and go to a hardware store and match it up for diameter and pitch.

Doc, I just went into the garage and tried mine, it is for sure an 8mm bolt. As far as the pitch is concerned, I am not sure. Sounds like jayc has the idea. I think I will do that. The seat is so close to the bolt head that I can't believe any kind of easy off bolt would be the way to go. Not for sure.

Is 8mm the wrench size? The screw diameter will be smaller and that is what the bolt is sized as. Are we having fun yet?

Some of these must be different, on my 2005, the bolts are 6x1.00mm and uses a 9-mm socket. I fabricated a couple of plastic finger nuts, I got at lowes. They are a little close to the seat on the front seat but it beats rounding up a socket and ratchet.
:)

I thought this would be a fun topic when you talk nuts/bolts. I looked it up on bikebandit.com and it just says flanged bolt. the chromed ones dont have too big a turning knob so should work fine if you knew the correct size bolt. let the fun continue. Thx
